Organizations Filed Purposes:
1) reduction of nuclear waste production on California's vulnerable earthquake active coastal zones; 2) advocate for the replacement of nuclear-fueled power plants with alternative, renewable, sustainable, and conservation energy sources ; 3) educate California residents regarding decommissioning impacts at the states nuclear power facilities, advocate for reasonable and prudent rates.
PUBLIC OVERSIGHT of both regulators and regulated utilities and governmental agencies; filed as intervenors with active participation in California Public Utilities Commission proceedings regarding the reopening of CPUC hearings on closure costs for San Onofre Nuclear Generation Station. Filing testimony and data requests, and attending mediation to achieve a large rate decrease SCE and SDG&E ratepayers. Filed comments and met with Commissioners of the California Energy Commission on continued seismic challenges at Diablo Canyon. Reviewed PG&E's NCDTP filing for issues of concern for upcoming CPUC decommissioning proceeding. Provided comments to the NRC on numerous safety concerns as they relate to costs that will be passed on to ratepayers.
Maintain website as a resource and archive for current and past nuclear energy articles filings, petitions & stories; networked w/ other California & national groups engaged in nuclear power issues; provided research & historical background data to state oversight agencies and national groups.
Liaison between state, non-governmental organizations and federal nuclear regulators; initiated and participated in localized Nuclear Regulatory Commission public participation meetings on proposed extension of Waste Confidence Decision for long term nuclear waste storage; monitored NRC SSHAC multi-day seismic workshop regarding seismic studies for Diablo Canyon nuclear plant; monitored and participated in NRC teleconferences regarding PG&E's filing of license Amendment Request for change in seismic design basis of Diablo Canyon nuclear power plant. Followed up with legislators on SB 1090 economic study related to impacts of Diablo closure. Selected as West Coast representative to address federal agencies on economic impacts of reactor closures and how the state and federal government can be of assistance.
