Organizations Filed Purposes: Dragon's mission is to serve as a theatrical hub that fosters an inclusive artistic community for the creation of experiences that are innovative, intimate, empathetic, accessible and bold.

In 2019 we produced 7 plays - 3 plays were part of our regular Main Stage season, 3 plays were a part of our 2nd Stages Series. The 2nd Stages series is a unique program that we've been running for several years that gives seed money to a local artist to produce a passion project play and we mentor them through the entire process of producing a show. We also added a 2 week run for a funny pop-culture holiday show at the end of the year. Our 2019 season included the following plays: The Revolutionists by Lauren Gunderson January 18 - February 10 Main Stage Series Macbeth by William Shakespeare March 15 - April 7, 2019 2nd Stage Series Shoggoths on the Veldt by Cameron McNary May 10 - June 2, 2019 Main Stage Series Redwood City Play Festival: Gender Shorts (inaugural season) Co-produced with Fuse Theatre June 8-14, 2019 The How and the Why by Sarah Treem July 12 - August 4, 2019 2nd Stages Series Hickorydickory by Marisa Wegrzyn Sept. 6 - Sept. 29, 2019 Main Stage Series Anne of the Thousand Days by Maxwell Anderson Nov 1 - Nov 24 2nd Stages Series The One Hour Star Wars: LIVE! by Donna Northcott Dec 12 - Dec 22 In 2019 we added a solo show festival to our usual line up to offer three local artists a space to tell their individual stories. We also partnered with local non-profit Fuse Theatre to present the first annual Redwood City One Act Festival. The theme was Gender Shorts and looked at three aspects of gender: toxic masculinity, a world premiere of a new one act that explored gender equality and sexual harassment, and a world premiere of a new one act that looked at transgender relationships. We also presented the Urban Arts Festival in partnership with Hip Hop Congress and Community Street Jam to highlight the history of hip hop in the Bay Area. In 2019 we also continued our Circus Arts Series, our Late Night series, and our Monday Night Play Space series. We also continued to present Dorktales, a nerdy story hour for kids that's co-sponsored by Geek Club Books, a local autism awareness group. In terms of education, in 2019 Dragon entered into a partnership with Broadway by the Bay, a nearby musical theatre company, to create the Redwood City Youth Theatre program to provide theatrical type classes to children from toddlers to teens. We also continued to run Dragon's adult education program and taught classes to adults and offered a few corporate improv classes.
