THE MISSION OF SANCHEZ ART CENTER IS TO CREATE COMMUNITY THROUGH ART BY OFFERING FREE EXHIBITIONS, AFFORDABLE ARTIST STUDIOS. ART EDUCATION, AND VISUAL ARTS OPPORTUNITIES.
Free exhibitions were attended by over 5,800 visitors during regular gallery hours who viewed the work of emerging and established west coast contemporary artists including the pre-eminent Chinese artist Hung Liu; a moving show on women and immigration by artist Sara Friedlander, and two contemporary abstract mixed media shows with Mark Eanes and a two-person show with Marc DEstout and Silvia Poloto. Community groups showing included an environmental themed show eARTh Matters by the Sanchez Studio Artists plus exhibitions by: the peninsula chapter of the Womens Caucus for Art; local award-winning photographers in the Fog Fest Invitational, and students from the Pacifica School District, with grades K 8 represented. The Art Guild of Pacifica group show themes were: (Un)finished; Soundtracks; Wild and Letters-Numbers-Symbols. Twenty special tours were arranged for school groups, art class attendees, artists and art lovers, hosting an additional 335 visitors.

Sanchez Art Centers focus on art education and community engagement is fundamental to our work. The Sanchez Goes to School project funded a credentialed teacher/artist instructor who provided 12 VAPA (Visual and Performing Arts) Standards lessons and art supplies to the entire school population of 560 children at Sunset Ridge Elementary School. Summer camps for kids provided fine art and film education to an additional 100 youth from Pacifica and the San Mateo coastside. Adult hands-on art engagement programs were attended by 310 and included figure drawing and introductions to Zentangles, mosaics, linocut, encaustic techniques, digital art, and more. Art lectures and gallery walks/talks were attended by 416 visitors to Sanchez Art Center galleries, increasing connection with the artists and understanding of their work inspiration, techniques and mediums. Engagement activities reached just under 70,000 Pacifica and Bay Area residents and visitors of all ages. Large community events Sanchez Art Center participated in included the annual Pacific Coast Fog Fest, that draws more than 65,000 visitors where SAC coordinates and displays the 80 100 entries for the annual Fog Fest Photography Contest; the Chamber of Commerce Tree Lighting, where SAC hosted event attendees to celebrate the season by making peace doves; and the EarthDay EcoFest featuring sea star art making. Additionally, the annual Open Studios event at Sanchez Art Center drew an additional 250 art lovers to the center. Additional activities hosted at the center included pop-up events for International Peace Week, featuring international artwork by children from around the world in partnership with Paintbrush Diplomacy and the making of Peace Pinwheels; Garden Stake Decorating to be planted in a recently completed streetscape; the Pacifica Mothers Club monthly drop-in art program for families, Art Guild of Pacificas monthly artist gatherings; and other various artist workshops and small gatherings.
