Organizations Filed Purposes:
Since 1936, Assistance League of San Pedro-South Bay, an all volunteer charitable organization, has been devoted to the needs of the children, families and seniors of its community. Our members are rewarded by the personal and direct involvement in fundraising, managing and staffing various philanthropic projects. We continue to identify the changing needs of our community and are committed to the growth, development and expansion of our chapter.
Over 80% of expenses are returned to the local community as aid to children, families and seniors. This includes dental care, school clothing and supplies, teddy bears for traumatized children, meals and entertainment for visually handicapped seniors,etc.
Francis J. Johnson Dental Center, provided 1,554 childrens appointments, for low-cost or no-cost dental services. These services assisted 347 children of low-income, working families. Thirty eight children participated in a program offered by an orthodontist, who provided reduced fee orthodontic services. The Dental Center is funded by restricted grants, gifts, and other chapter funds.
Operation School Bell provided new clothing, shoes, and supplies for 1,680 elementary, middle school, and high school children primarily from shopping events. Grooming and school supplies were provided by Assisteens.
Operation Hug provided 4,051 teddy bears to hospitals and crisis centers for distribution to young trauma victims.
