Organizations Filed Purposes:
To provide adequate housing for low-income people.
New Homes: In each community, the families had been living in shacks made out of cardboard, corn stalks or scrap metal and dirt floors. The homes were replaced with reinforced concrete block homes with concrete floors and locking doors and windows. 2-6 Guatemalan skilled laborers benefit from a paid job with each constructed home. We regranted $12,000 to From Houses to Homes to build 6 homes in 3 communities that directly impacted 27 people, most of whom are women and children. Construction on these homes began in the winter of 2020. We regranted $126,812.00 to Friends of Constru Casa to build 44 homes with bathrooms or composting latrines, 32 of which will receive high efficient stoves and water filters. 19 have been completed, directly impacting 109 people in 3 different communities. 25 of the homes are to be built in 2020.
Guatemala Visitation: 10 donors & volunteers, including the Executive Director, President and three Advisory Board members traveled to Guatemala to participate to visit completed projects and clients and to meet with partners. The Executive Director did a separate program visit to check on projects and develop additional partners for construction. In addition we regranted $1000 to From Houses to Homes and $1000 to Friends of Constru Casa to help cover their costs for our visits.
Accessibility improvements: We regranted $657 to Friends of Constru Casa to provide ramps and bathroom grab bars for 3 families who have at least one wheelchair user.
