Organizations Filed Purposes: Originally chartered as the Symphony Guild of Marin, The Marin Symphony Association has also been committed to providing programs to give young people in Marin an incentive for musical study and accomplishment.Marin County Catholic High School was the setting for the Marin Symphony's first official concert on December 14, 1952. The Symphony's performances remained there through the succeeding 13 seasons. The Symphony's second home through 1970 was the auditorium at the College of Marin. In 1971, the Symphony moved to its permanent home in the newly opened, 2,000-seat Marin Veterans' Memorial Auditorium where it remained until October, 1989, when seismic reinforcement to the hall necessitated a two-year hiatus. During this brief interval, the Symphony performances moved to Angelico Hall at Dominican University. On the occasion of the auditorium's 20th Anniversary on November 17, 1991, the Symphony returned to its home in the Marin Veterans' Memorial Auditorium, where it still resides to

The Marin Symphony is one of the oldest and most prestigious organizations in Marin County. The orchestra was the inspiration of a small group of professional and amateur musicians who wished to bring classical music, performed by local artists, to the people of Marin.

REGULAR SEASON CONCERTS: THE MARIN SYMPHONY ASSOCIATION PRESENTED SEVERAL PERFORMANCES AT VARIOUS LOCATIONS IN NORTHERN CALIFORNIA, PRIMARILY THE SAN RAFAEL AREA, AS PART OF ITS COMMITMENT TO PROVIDE ORCHESTRAL MUSIC TO THE SAN FRANCISCO BAY AREA COMMUNITY. Under Music Director Alasdair Neale, the Marin Symphony has bounded into the 21st century with a new kind of Maestro, a hot young conductor who is a respected and charismatic musician. Alasdair Neale began his tenure as Music Director of the Marin Symphony in 2001. He also holds the positions of Music Director of the Sun Valley Summer Symphony, Principal Guest Conductor of the New World Symphony and Music Director of the San Francisco Conservatory of Music Orchestra.

Mr. Neales Marin Symphony appointment followed 12 years as Associate Conductor of the San Francisco Symphony and Music Director of the San Francisco Symphony Youth Orchestra. During that time he conducted both orchestras in hundreds of critically acclaimed concerts both here and abroad. In 1999, he substituted for an ailing Michael Tilson Thomas, conducting the San Francisco Symphony in widely praised performances of Mahlers Fifth Symphony in Germany. Under Mr. Neales direction, the Youth Orchestra became one of the finest young ensembles in the world, receiving consistent rave reviews for performances in San Francisco, as well as on tour in Moscow, Madrid, Paris, Prague, St. Petersburg, Dublin, Copenhagen, Leipzig and Amsterdam.

YOUTH PROGRAMS: The Marin Symphony Youth Orchestra is a part of the Marin Symphony . . . a group of over eighty young musicians that is open to applicants under the age of twenty. In a normal year (pre-COVID 19), The Youth Orchestra rehearses weekly during the season, beginning in September and ending in June, and performs three times: December, March and June. The Crescendo Program is an extension of the Marin Symphony Youth Orchestra designed to allow younger musicians to participate in a less rigorous, yet just as instructive, organized musical group. Crescendo Workshop participants have the opportunity to hone their musical skills, learn to follow a conductor and participate as a member of an orchestra. Crescendo rehearses regularly throughout the season, and performs twice, once in December and once in June. (continued on schedule O)
