PROVIDING LOW COST AND FREE LEGAL SERVICES TO SENIORS, PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES AND THEIR FAMILIES
In 2019 the Elder Law and Disability Rights Center continued to serve seniors, people with disabilities, and their families. As the only sliding scale legal service organization in Orange County we are fighting to close the justice gap. And we continue to bring legal services to those vulnerable individuals who are unable to take advantage of the traditional options. In that role we served hundreds of homeless individuals with problems including from access to shelter, due process, trust disputes, tickets, and more. Our support saved lives. At the same time, we invested time and resources in community education to ensure that we could answer every call for education on the challenges that face our community experiencing homelessness and interfere with county wide solutions. Throughout 2019 we continued to serve seniors through our senior center legal clinic, advise, representation, and information. We kept one senior from losing her home and falling into homelessness when she found herself in a receivership without the tools to navigate the complicated process. Another adult with disabilities was able to stay in the assisted living home he came to love because we defended him when litigation was brought against him after an alleged altercation with another resident. And hundreds of seniors were given the comfort of having their end of life plans complete despite limited resources. As we enter 2020, we are excited to continue all these services and more.
