EDWARD B. COLE SENIOR ACADEMY (EBC) - THE ORGANIZATION OPERATES THE EDWARD B. COLE SR. ACADEMY (A CHARTER SCHOOL) SERVING LOW INCOME FAMILIES IN THE HEART OF SANTA ANA. APPROXIMATELY 395 K-5 CHILDREN WERE SERVED.

TEMPLO CALVARIO COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT CENTER (TCCDC) TCCDC SERVES FAMILIES IN SANTA ANA BY PROVIDING THEM ACCESS TO COMPREHENSIVE QUALITY PROGRAMS THAT ENGAGE AND EMPOWER THEM TO ACHIEVE SUCCESS. OUR CORE PROGRAMS AIM TO SERVE CHILDREN, TEENS, AND ADULTS DELIVERING INNOVATIVE AND EFFECTIVE SOLUTIONS THAT PROMOTE EQUITY AND COMBAT LONG-STANDING CULTURAL AND SOCIOECONOMIC BARRIERS TO SUCCESS. APPROXIMATELY 1350 PEOPLE WERE SERVED. CORE PROGRAMS INCLUDE:1. BANKING ON OUR YOUTH (BOY) AN EFFECTIVE AND IMPACTFUL FINANCIAL LITERACY AND ENTREPRENEURSHIP PROGRAM TARGETING HIGH SCHOOL JUNIORS AND SENIORS ENROLLED IN THE SANTA ANA UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT THAT FOSTERS NOT ONLY THE SPIRIT OF ENTREPRENEURIALISM AMONG PARTICIPANTS, BUT ALSO PROVIDES CONTINUING EDUCATION SCHOLARSHIPS.DURING THE FALL SEMESTER, BOY PARTICIPANTS ATTENDED MONTHLY/BI-MONTHLY 2-HOUR VIRTUAL SESSIONS FOCUSED ON FINANCIAL LITERACY; SESSION TOPICS INCLUDED MONEY MANAGEMENT, BORROWING, EARNING POWER, INVESTING, FINANCIAL SERVICES, AND INSURANCE. HAVING ESTABLISHED A STRONG FOUNDATION OF CRITICAL FINANCIAL CONCEPTS, THE SECOND HALF OF THE PROGRAM FOCUSED ON ENTREPRENEURSHIP TRAINING WITH STUDENTS LEARNING ABOUT THE ENTREPRENEURIAL MINDSET, COMPETITIVE ADVANTAGE, ELEVATOR PITCH, COST OF DOING BUSINESS, AND PRESENTATION SKILLS. WHILE STUDENT ENGAGEMENT VIA DISTANCE LEARNING HAS BEEN A CHALLENGE FOR MANY ORGANIZATIONS, THANKS TO THE CREATIVITY AND COMMITMENT OF OUR BOY INSTRUCTORS, STAFF AND BUSINESS PARTNERS, THE MAJORITY OF BOY PARTICIPANTS HAVE BEEN QUICK TO RESPOND TO PROMPTS AND TO ENGAGE WITH ONE ANOTHER.A KEY COMPONENT OF THE BOY PROGRAM IS ITS BUSINESS PLAN COMPETITION WHICH WAS ONCE AGAIN HELD VIRTUALLY. THIS YEAR, 15 TEAMS OF THREE STUDENTS RECORDED A 2-MINUTE BUSINESS PLAN PITCH FOR THE FIRST ROUND OF COMPETITION WHICH WAS SCORED BY A PANEL OF JUDGES. THE TOP SIX TEAMS THEN ADVANCED TO PITCH THEIR BUSINESS PLANS LIVE ON ZOOM TO THE JUDGES AND TO THEIR PEERS. THANKS TO THE FINANCIAL SUPPORT FROM PACIFIC PREMIER BANK, TCCDC AWARDED A TOTAL OF $17,000 IN EDUCATIONAL SCHOLARSHIPS TO OUR 18 SMALL BUSINESS COMPETITION WINNERS. ON APRIL 17, TCCDC HELD ITS END-OF-THE-YEAR DINNER EVENT TO CELEBRATE THE ACCOMPLISHMENTS OF OUR STUDENTS. 2. SANTA ANA PARENT PROJECT (SAAP) AN EVIDENCE-BASED, PEER-TO-PEER PARENT EDUCATION AND TRAINING PROGRAM THAT UTILIZES AN EVIDENCE-BASED CURRICULUM, RAISING HIGHLY CAPABLE KIDS, WHICH IS DESIGNED TO HELP PARENTS AND CAREGIVERS FOSTER THE DEVELOPMENTAL ASSETS THAT PRODUCE HEALTHY, CARING, AND RESPONSIBLE CHILDREN WHO ARE RESILIENT, RESOURCEFUL, AND SUCCESSFUL WHILE ALSO PROMOTING CIVIC ENGAGEMENT, AND TEACHING LEADERSHIP AND FINANCIAL LITERACY SKILLS TO PARENTS.DUE TO THE STATEWIDE STAY AT HOME ORDER AND SUBSEQUENT SCHOOL CLOSURES IN MARCH, TCCDC MIGRATED ITS SANTA ANA PARENT PROJECT CLASSES TO VIRTUAL PLATFORMS. DESPITE THE CHALLENGES BROUGHT ON BY THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC, WE ARE PROUD TO REPORT THE FOLLOWING PROGRAM ACHIEVEMENTS DURING THE 2019-2020 SCHOOL YEAR: TRAINED 10 PARENT LEADERS WHO PROVIDED MENTORSHIP AND SUPPORT TO PROGRAM PARTICIPANTS RECRUITED 56 NEW PARENT VOLUNTEERS THAT SERVED AS PEER MENTORS GRADUATED 43 PARENTS FROM THE SANTA ANA PARENT PROJECT IN JUNE 2020 IMPACTED THE LIVES OF 189 CHILDREN AND FAMILY MEMBERS THIS PAST YEARIN JUNE, TCCDC LAUNCHED THE FIRST CYCLE OF ITS 2020-2021 SANTA ANA PARENT PROJECT AND CONDUCTED ALL THIRTEEN SESSIONS VIA FACEBOOK LIVE. THESE VIDEOS HAVE BEEN VIEWED MORE THAN 2,760 TIMES. IN RESPONSE TO THE CONTINUED DEMAND FOR THIS PROGRAM, TCCDC BEGAN TWO NEW GROUPS THIS PAST OCTOBER. TCCDC'S SANTA ANA PARENT PROJECT PROGRAM HELPED EMPOWER PARENTS IN OUR COMMUNITY WITH THE EDUCATION AND SKILLS TO IMPROVE THEIR FINANCIAL STABILITY AND TRANSFORM THE LONG-TERM BEHAVIORAL AND ACADEMIC TRAJECTORY OF THEIR CHILDREN. TO FURTHER DEMONSTRATE HOW SAPP HELPED TRANSFORM THE CIRCUMSTANCES AND OUTLOOK OF UNDERSERVED INDIVIDUALS IN OUR COMMUNITY, WE ARE HONORED TO SHARE MARIA M.'S STORY. MARIA M. CURRENTLY SERVES AS A PARENT LEADER FOR THE SANTA ANA PARENT PROJECT. WHEN MARIA FIRST HEARD ABOUT THE IMPACT THIS PROGRAM HAD ON PEOPLES' LIVES, SHE BECAME INTRIGUED AND MOTIVATED TO LEARN MORE ABOUT THIS PROGRAM AND HOW SHE COULD ENROLL. THROUGH THE SANTA ANA PARENT PROJECT, MARIA LEARNED THE IMPORTANCE OF BEING PRESENT IN HER CHILDREN'S LIVES. HER SON, ALEXIS IS A 2019 ALUMNI OF OUR BANKING ON OUR YOUTH PROGRAM AND IS CURRENTLY ATTENDING HARVARD UNIVERSITY. ATTRIBUTING HIS SUCCESS TO HIS AND HIS MOM'S INVOLVEMENT WITH TCCDC, ALEXIS RECENTLY SHARED THE FOLLOWING, "BECAUSE OF PROGRAMS LIKE SANTA ANA PARENT PROJECT, MY MOM LEARNED NEW TACTICS AND LESSONS AND ALWAYS SHOWED UP FOR MY AWARD CEREMONIES AND CHEERED ME ON MY PROCESS WITH TCCDC HAS ALWAYS BEEN ONE OF THE GREATEST EXPERIENCES I HAVE HAD. THEY'VE IMPACTED MY FAMILY AND I IN MANY WAYS. I LIKE TO CONSIDER MYSELF A PRODUCT OF MY COMMUNITY AND I KNOW I WOULDN'T BE HERE TODAY, WITHOUT THEIR HELP AND SUPPORT." 3. SEGURO FAMILY FINANCIAL EMPOWERMENT CENTER AN INNOVATIVE AND COLLABORATIVE FINANCIAL EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND MENTORSHIP PROGRAM THAT AIMS TO EQUIP LOW-INCOME INDIVIDUALS AND FAMILIES WITH THE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND RESOURCES THEY NEED TO GAIN GREATER FINANCIAL LITERACY, ATTAIN FINANCIAL SECURITY, AND MAINTAIN LONG-TERM FINANCIAL STABILITY, WITH A PARTICULAR FOCUS ON SMALL BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT AND HOME OWNERSHIP.PRIOR TO THE ONSET OF THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC, TCCDC ACHIEVED THE FOLLOWING PROGRAM ACCOMPLISHMENTS DURING THE 2019-2020 FISCAL YEAR: ENROLLED 27 INDIVIDUALS SEGURO'S PROGRAM INITIATIVES 100% OF PROGRAM PARTICIPANTS RECEIVED INDIVIDUALIZED FAMILY CASE PLANS AND WEEKLY CASE MANAGEMENT SERVICES TO ENSURE THEY REMAIN ON TRACK TO COMPLETING THEIR INDIVIDUAL GOALS PROVIDED 18 FINANCIAL LITERACY CLASSES COVERING TOPICS SUCH AS MONEY MANAGEMENT, BUDGET PLANS, BORROWING AND DEBT, AND FINANCIAL GOAL SETTING FOR A TOTAL OF 25 INDIVIDUALS ADVANCED 18 PARTICIPANTS TO THE SECOND PHASE OF FINANCIAL EDUCATION PROGRAMMING, SEGURO'S SMALL BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT CLASSES. HOSTED 1 HOME OWNERSHIP CLASS FOR 4 PROGRAM PARTICIPANTS TRAINED 4 FINANCE MENTORS WHO PROVIDE VALUABLE INSIGHT AND EXPERTISE IN THE WORLD OF BANKING AND SMALL BUSINESS TO PROGRAM PARTICIPANTS4. EMERGENCY ASSISTANCE FUND - WHILE OUR CORE PROGRAMS ARE DESIGNED TO EQUIP OUR FAMILIES WITH THE INFORMATION, SKILLS AND TOOLS THEY NEED TO TRANSFORM THEIR CIRCUMSTANCES AND ACHIEVE LONG-TERM FINANCIAL RESILIENCY, WE REALIZE THAT THOUSANDS IN OUR COMMUNITY HAVE LOST THEIR JOBS AS A RESULT OF THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC AND ARE STRUGGLING TO PROVIDE AND MAINTAIN BASIC NEEDS FOR THEMSELVES AND THEIR FAMILIES. IN RESPONSE TO THIS SIGNIFICANT NEED IN OUR COMMUNITY, TCCDC CREATED THE EMERGENCY ASSISTANCE FUND. THE PRIMARY OBJECTIVE OF THIS FUND IS TO PROVIDE EMERGENCY ASSISTANCE TO CLIENTS WHO HAVE AN IMMEDIATE NEED FOR FUNDS AS THE RESULT OF COVID-19 AND HAVE NO OTHER FINANCIAL RESOURCES AVAILABLE WITHIN THE TIME NECESSARY TO ACT, OR WHO HAVE A DIRE PERSONAL FINANCIAL HARDSHIP. THE PROGRAM IS INTENDED TO FILL THE NEEDS OF TCCDC CLIENTS THAT ARE NOT BEING MET BY OTHER AVAILABLE SOURCES. THANKS TO THE GENEROSITY OF THE PHILANTHROPIC COMMUNITY INCLUDING PACIFIC PREMIER BANK, TCCDC HAS BEEN ABLE TO: PROVIDE 136 FAMILIES WITH SUPPORT THROUGH THE EMERGENCY ASSISTANCE FUND; DISTRIBUTE $15,705 WORTH IN GROCERY GIFT CARDS; PROVIDE $23,905 IN FINANCIAL AID TO FAMILIES THAT SHOWED A DIRE FINANCIAL HARDSHIP AND NEEDED SUPPORT TO PAY RENT, UTILITIES, AND FUNERAL SERVICE EXPENSES; AND HOST A DAY OF GRATITUDE IN WHICH TCCDC PURCHASED AND DISTRIBUTED ESSENTIAL FOOD ITEMS ALONG WITH SOME THANKSGIVING FAVORITES TO 11 FAMILIES FACING EXTREME ECONOMIC CHALLENGES.
