Organizations Filed Purposes: To enhance community awareness and appreciation of architecture and the built environment

The Architectural Foundation of Santa Barbara (AFSB) increases the awareness and knowledge of the architectural field through a variety of programs. Approximately 200 children between 3 and 18 years of age participate in the Kids Draw Architecture Program which allows children to appreciate and learn about architecture and the architectural profession. The Built Environment Education Program (BEEP) is an extended studio type experience in design and problem solving for elementary level students in Santa Barbara County Schools serving approximately 175 students, on hold this year due to COVID 19. In a normal year 400-450 people participate in docent-led walking tours of historic downtown Santa Barbara to learn about archictecture in the community. AFSB is headquartered in the historic Acheson House in downtown Santa Barbara. Approximately 1,200-1,400 people visit the Acheson House to attend events or visit the art gallery that displays high quality artwork that explores the relationship between architecture and fine art. Five exhibits are displayed each year. AFSB also has a scholarship program which provides financial support to 14-16 students interested in studying architecture.
