Organizations Filed Purposes: THE ORGANIZATION PROTECTS AND ENHANCES THE LOCAL ENVIRONMENT THROUGH EDUCATION, ADVOCACY AND LEGAL ACTION.

SINCE 1977 WE HAVE EMPOWERED COMMUNITY BASED ORGANIZATIONS TO ADVANCE ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION. OUR PROGRAM AREAS INCLUDE CLIMATE AND ENERGY, OPEN SPACE AND WILDLIFE, CLEAN WATER AND SANTA BARBARA CHANNEL. WE PRIMARILY WORK WITHIN SANTA BARBARA, VENTURA AND SAN LUIS OBISPO COUNTIES. EDC IS ORGANIZED AS A SEC. 501(C)(3) NONPROFIT CORPORATION, AND PROVIDES LEGAL COUNSEL TO OTHER NONPROFIT ORGANIZATIONS. WE REMAIN THE ONLY SUCH PUBLIC INTEREST ENVIRONMENTAL LAW FIRM BETWEEN LOS ANGELES AND SAN FRANCISCO, AND THRIVE ON THE SUPPORT OF COMMUNITY MEMBERS FROM WITHIN OUR REGION AND BEYOND.

SANTA BARBARA CHANNEL (ISSUES REGARDING OCEAN WATER QUALITY, CHANNEL ISLANDS NATIONAL MARINE SANCTUARY (CINMS) AND PARK, COASTAL DEVELOPMENT, OFFSHORE OIL AND GAS, PUBLIC ACCESS): EDC REPRESENTED THE CONSERVATION COMMUNITY ON THE CINMS ADVISORY COUNCIL AND CHAIRED THE CINMS CONSERVATION WORKING GROUP; CO-CHAIRED THE CENTRAL COAST MARINE PROTECTED AREA (MPA) COLLABORATIVE AND IMPROVED IMPLEMENTATION AND ENFORCEMENT OF MPAS; CONTINUED WORK WITH PARTNERS TO PROTECT ENDANGERED BLUE WHALES FROM CARGO SHIP STRIKES; DEFENDED INJUNCTION AGAINST FRACKING FROM PLATFORMS OFFSHORE CALIFORNIA; DEFEATED PROPOSAL TO AVOID STATE REGULATORY OVERSIGHT OF OPEN OCEAN AQUACULTURE; FILED COMMENTS REGARDING PROPOSED UPDATE TO THE CINMS MANAGEMENT PLAN.

OPEN SPACE AND WILDLIFE PRESERVATION: (ISSUES REGARDING ENDANGERED SPECIES, HABITATS, WATERSHEDS, AGRICULTURAL AND OPEN SPACE LANDS): OBTAINED ORDER FROM STATE WATER BOARD PROTECTING STEELHEAD IN THE SANTA YNEZ RIVER BELOW CACHUMA DAM; LED CREEK CLEAN-UPS AND SURVEYS, AND REPORTED VIOLATIONS TO RELEVANT AGENCIES; PRESERVED CREEK PROTECTION POLICIES IN THE CITY OF GOLETA; EXTENDED BAN ON UNMANAGED TARGET SHOOTING IN THE LOS PADRES NATIONAL FOREST; CONVINCED CITY OF SOLVANG TO REDUCE PLAN TO DRILL WATER WELLS IN THE SANTA YNEZ RIVER; RESPONDED TO ILLEGAL DISKING OF SENSITIVE HABITATS ON THE GAVIOTA COAST; FILED LAWSUIT TO RESTORE FLOWS FOR STEELHEAD IN THE SANTA MARIA RIVER WATERSHED.
