THE GOLETA VALLEY CENTER, SANTA BARBARA CENTER,AND TEEN PROGRAM SERVED 694 YOUTH BETWEEN THE AGES OF 4 AND 18 DURING 2019 IN AFTER SCHOOL AND SUMMER PROGRAMS. OUR COMPREHENSIVE APPROACH TO WHOLE GIRL DEVELOPMENT EQUIPS GIRLS TO NAVIGATE GENDER, ECONOMIC, AND SOCIAL BARRIERS AND GROW UP HEALTHY, EDUCATED, AND INDEPENDENT. THESE POSITIVE OUTCOMES ARE ACHIEVED THROUGH THREE CORE ELEMENTS: PEOPLE - TRAINED STAFF AND VOLUNTEERS WHO BUILD LASTING, MENTORING RELATIONSHIPS; ENVIRONMENT - GIRLS-ONLY, PHYSICALLY AND EMOTIONALLY SAFE, WHERE THERE IS A SISTERHOOD OF SUPPORT, HIGH EXPECTATIONS, AND MUTUAL RESPECT; AND PROGRAMMING - RESEARCH-BASED, HANDS-ON AND MINDS-ON, AGE-APPROPRIATE, MEETING THE NEEDS OF TODAY'S GIRLS. INFORMED BY GIRLS AND THEIR FAMILIES, WE ALSO ADVOCATE FOR INCREASED OPPORTUNITIES FOR ALL GIRLS.

GIRLS INC'S RECREATIONAL AND COMPETITIVE GYMNASTICS PROGRAM SERVED 649 UNDUPLICATED CHILDREN IN 2019. THROUGH THE GYMNASTICS PROGRAM, CHILDREN IMPROVED THEIR PHYSICAL STRENGTH AND FLEXIBILITY, LEARNED SOCIAL SKILLS, HOW TO FOLLOW DIRECTIONS, AND HOW TO WORK WITHIN A GROUP ENVIRONMENT. WITH THE INCREASE IN THEIR ABILITIES, CHILDREN'S CONFIDENCE AND SELF-ESTEEM ALSO IMPROVES, PROVIDING LONG-TERM PHYSICAL AND EMOTIONAL BENEFITS.
