Organizations Filed Purposes: THE ORFALEA FUND'S MISSION IS TO STRENGTHEN COMMUNITIES BY EMPOWERING INDIVIDUALS THROUGH ENGAGING IN CHARITABLE ACTIVITIES WHICH ARE CONSISTENT WITH THE CHARITABLE PURPOSES OF THE SANTA BARBARA FOUNDATION.

THE ORFALEA FUND PROVIDED DONATIONS TO SUPPORT EDUCATION AND ADDRESS CRITICAL COMMUNITY NEEDS THROUGH CHARITIES THAT SERVE CHILDREN AND FAMILIES IN SANTA BARBARA COUNTY AND SUPPORT AND FACILITATE KEY COMMUNITY AND PUBLIC-PRIVATE PARTNERSHIPS WHICH ARE CONSISTENT WITH THE CHARITABLE PURPOSES OF THE SANTA BARBARA FOUNDATION.

THE MISSION OF THE SCHOOL FOOD INITIATIVE IS TO EMPOWER THE PUBLIC SCHOOLS OF SANTA BARBARA COUNTY TO IMPLEMENT AND SUSTAIN NOURISHING COOKED-FROM-SCRATCH FOOD SERVICE OPERATIONS WHILE PROCURING AS MUCH LOCALLY-PRODUCED FOOD AS POSSIBLE. THE VISION IS TO CREATE A COMMUNITY OF HEALTHY CHILDREN ACROSS SANTA BARBARA COUNTY WHO WILL MAKE EDUCATED FOOD CHOICES THROUGHOUT THEIR LIVES. ACCOMPLISHMENTS IN 2015 INCLUDED: IMPLEMENTING CHEFS IN THE GARDEN, AN INTEGRATED, ADAPTIVE PROGRAM THAT FEATURES TASTE EDUCATION, PLANT KNOWLEDGE AND COOKING SKILLS FOR ELEMENTARY SCHOOL STUDENTS; ORGANIZING AND LEADING PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT TRAININGS FOR FOOD SERVICE WORKERS TO REINFORCE THE IMPACT OF CULINARY BOOT CAMPS; AND ORGANIZING AND HOSTING THE SECOND ANNUAL SCHOOL WELLNESS SUMMIT, A FORUM WHERE PEERS IN THE EDUCATION COMMUNITY CONVENE TO SHARE INNOVATIVE PRACTICES, FORM A SUPPORT NETWORK AND COLLECTIVELY BUILD A CULTURE OF HEALTH AND WELLNESS IN OUR SCHOOLS.

REACH WORKS TO PREPARE STUDENTS FOR LIVES OF PURPOSEFUL ACTION, CONTINUOUS LEARNING AND THE COURAGEOUS PURSUIT OF OPPORTUNITY. WE DO THIS BY ESTABLISHING RELATIONSHIPS WITH STUDENTS AND PROVIDING THEM EXPERIENTIAL EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES TO BUILD LIFE SKILLS. WE FOCUS ON CREATING A POST SECONDARY EDUCATIONAL PLAN, BASIC FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT SKILLS, FOOD LITERACY, PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT, OUTDOOR ADVENTURE AND CONNECTION WITH NATURE, AND COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT. REACH IS A 4 YEAR PROGRAM THAT BRIDGES THE TRANSITION PERIOD FROM HIGH SCHOOL INTO ADULTHOOD. ACCOMPLISHMENTS IN 2015 INCLUDED AN 8 DAY BACKPACK TRIP IN THE SIERRAS, 2 WEBINAR BASED EVENTS PER MONTH FOCUSED ON FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT, EDUCATION PLANS AND FOOD LITERACY AND A 5 DAY ROCK CLIMBING TRIP TO JOSHUA TREE NATIONAL PARK FOR THE 2013 COHORT. THE 2012 COHORT COMPLETED A 2 DAY OVERNIGHT FRONT COUNTRY CAMPING TRIP, A 5 DAY COLLEGE SKILLS TRAINING TRIP TO SAN DIEGO AND 2 WEBINARS PER MONTH FOCUSED ON THE REACH CORE AREAS.
