Therapy Dogs of Santa Barbara provided humane education and literacy programs, at no cost, to approximately 1,500 children and young adults at several Title 1 (low income) elementary schools and children's organizations, as well as institutions of higher learning throughout Santa Barbara County. The organization continued to expand its innovative literacy program, ARF!(Animals + Reading = Fun!), which gives "reluctant readers" in grades K-6 an opportunity to improve their reading skills and develop empathy for animals by reading aloud to specially trained therapy dogs. The organization also provided "Wellness Visits" to the elderly residing at assisted living care facilities.
