TO IMPROVE THE HEALTH OF OUR PATIENTS AND THE COMMUNITY AND TO ADVOCATE THE FEMINIST GOALS OF SOCIAL, POLITICAL AND ECONOMIC EQUALITY.
DURING THE YEAR ENDING JUNE 30, 2020, THE SANTA CRUZ COMMUNITY HEALTH CENTERS SERVED 11,198 PATIENTS VIA 51,440 VISITS. SCCHC CONTINUED TO SEE A MARKED INCREASE IN THE NUMBER OF HOMELESS PATIENTS SERVED, ALMOST DOUBLING TO A TOTAL OF 1,722. SERVICES CONTINUED TO SERVE PATIENTS WITH COMPLEX NEEDS SUCH AS HOMELESSNESS AND BEHAVIORAL HEALTH NEEDS, AND SCCHC ALSO CONTINUED TO PROVIDE COMPREHENSIVE PRIMARY CARE, PEDIATRICS, PRENATAL CARE, INTEGRATED MENTAL HEALTH AND SUBSTANCE USE TREATMENT SERVICES, ACUPUNCTURE, CHIROPRACTIC CARE, OUTREACH, ENROLLMENT, AND FOOD DISTRIBUTION.SCCHC'S QUALITY OF CARE REMAINED VERY STRONG BASED UPON A THIRD-PARTY REVIEW BY THE CENTRAL CALIFORNIA ALLIANCE FOR HEALTH. ITS YEAR-END REPORT SHOWED THAT SCCHC SIGNIFICANTLY EXCEEDED ITS PEERS IN TERMS OF PRIMARY CARE QUALITY. BY FAR, THE BIGGEST CHALLENGE THIS YEAR WAS DUE TO THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC WHICH INITIALLY CAUSED A REDUCTION IN VISITS OF 25%. HOWEVER, SCCHC ACTIVATED AN INCIDENT COMMAND SYSTEM AND QUICKLY PIVOTED TO TELEPHONIC AND TELEHEALTH VISITS AND WAS ABLE TO EVENTUALLY INCREASE THE NUMBER SERVED TO ABOUT 95% OF PRE-COVID LEVELS.SCCHC ENTERED A PRODUCTIVE COVID-19 TESTING CONTRACT WITH THE UNIVERSITY OF CALIFORNIA, SANTA CRUZ, WHICH GREATLY DECREASED THE TIME TO GET TEST RESULTS AND ALSO CONDUCTED CAR-SIDE TESTING FOR THE SAFETY OF BOTH STAFF AND PATIENTS.GIVEN HIGH NEEDS OF PATIENTS AND THE COMMUNITY, SCCHC ALSO INCREASED FOOD DISTRIBUTION TO OVER 150,000 POUNDS OR TEN TIMES THEIR NORMAL QUARTERLY AMOUNT.IN FISCAL YEAR 2019, THE SCCHC BOARD MADE A COMMITMENT TO EXPAND ITS LIVE OAK SERVICES BY BUILDING A NEW SITE IN PARTNERSHIP WITH DIENTES COMMUNITY DENTAL CARE ("DIENTES"); AND MIDPEN HOUSING, AN AFFORDABLE HOUSING DEVELOPER.
