Tannery World Dance & Cultural Center (TWDCC) facilitates a working home for professional world & contemporary dance artists, while providing dance education that is committed to access, equity and excellence.
TWDCC provides a dance and cultural center that operates through three lead programs: Youth Classes, Adult Classes, and Community events. Through each of these programs we provide affordable and equitable dance education for Santa Cruz County residents. We also provide ongoing Community programming such as cultural festivals, partnerships with civic and cultural institutions like the SC Public Libraries to enable FREE dance education and exposure to the whole community. Our Youth program supports dance education for children ages 3- 18yrs.. TWDCC has four youth dance companies that are built on the foundation of training, leadership, and discipline.This year we provided 20 full dance scholarships to underserved students in our community.The TWDCC youth program serves over 200 students each week and provides a dance andcultural center that has become a second home to many.Our Adult program provides affordable dance space to dance educators in Santa Cruz. Through our programming such as Diaspora Performance Project, we support the artistic and professional development of five African artists; many of whom are immigrants to the United States. Last year our space housed over 35 diverse classes from teachers from around the world, including: Cuba, West and Central Africa and more. The program also hosted workshops and specialty classes.Our Community program continues to provide cultural and professional dance opportunities for the Santa Cruz Community. TWDCC produced the Winter Dance Fest and partnered with the Arts Council of Santa Cruz County to produce the Ebb and Flow River Arts festival, attracting 3000 participants who were educated about the San Lorenzo river through the arts. TWDCC also partnered with the Santa Cruz Public libraries to feature dance artists from around the world teaching FREE dance classes at various SC library locations.Number of attendees for classes per week/year = 450Number of attendees per year for Adult programs = 700Number of attendees for festivals, workshops, partnerships = 3000
