Organizations Filed Purposes:
TO ENRICH THE LIVES OF MEMBERS AND THE COMMUNITY THROUGH OUR LEGACY OF WOMEN'S FELLOWSHIP AND CHARITABLE SERVICE, AND THROUGH STEWARDSHIP OF OUR HISTORIC BUILDING TO PROVIDE A PLACE FOR SOCIAL, EDUCATIONAL, CIVIC, AND CULTURAL PROGRAMS & EVENTS.
THE SANTA MONICA BAY WOMAN'S CLUB (THE CLUB) IS A MEMBERSHIP ORGANIZATION THAT CONSISTS OF 78 MEMBERS. DURING THE YEAR, THE CLUB HELD 99 EVENTS FOR ITS MEMBERS, MOST OF WHICH WERE ALSO OPEN TO THE COMMUNITY. SUCH EVENTS INCLUDE WEEKLY CARD GAMES (BRIDGE, ET AL) AND ARTISTS' LEAGUE MEETINGS, MONTHLY MEETINGS OF THE BOOK CLUB, AND POTLUCK DINNERS; NEW MEMBER EVENTS AND LUNCHEONS. AT MOST OF THESE EVENTS, DONATIONS FROM THE PARTICIPANTS ARE COLLECTED AND DISBURSED TO SELECTED CHARITABLE ORGANIZATIONS. DUE TO COVID-19 RESTRICTIONS AND CLOSURES, CLUB ACTIVITIES WERE CURTAILED MID-MARCH FOR THE REMAINING PORTION OF THE FISCAL YEAR.CLUB MEMBERS ALSO ORGANIZE SPECIAL FUNDRAISERS FOR ( CON SCH O) SPECIFIC CAUSES, ORGANIZE COLLABORATIVE FUNDRAISING EVENTS WITH OTHER NON-PROFITS, AND VOLUNTEER AT THE EVENTS OF OTHER NON-PROFITS. DURING THIS FISCAL YEAR, THESE EVENTS INCLUDED THE FOLLOWING: ATTENDING AN ANNUAL FUNDRAISER FOR SM HISTORY MUSEUM; COOKING AT THE STEP-UP ON SECOND DINNER FOR VETERANS; HELD A WELLNESS EVENT FOR FEMALE VETERANS AND FAMILIES AT THE CLUB; HELD A SCREENING AT THE CLUB OF A DOCUMENTARY ABOUT MILITARY WIVES IN CONJUNCTION WITH WOUNDED WARRIORS AND UCLA VET FAMILY WELLNESS; HELD A MINI TREE DECORATING EVENT TO BENEFIT JOY CATCHERS, CLUB LUNCHEON WITH PROCEEDS TO HAPPY TRAIL FOR KIDS; JOINED DISTRICT 18 ON A FIELD TRIP TO A GUIDE DOG FACILITY.THE CLUB ALSO CONTINUED WITH A CONTRIBUTION TO THE REFURBISHING OF THE NATIONAL FEDERATION OF WOMEN'S CLUBS' HEADQUARTERS IN WASHINGTON, DC. FOR THIS FISCAL YEAR, 22 CHARITABLE ORGANIZATIONS WERE RECIPIENTS OF DONATIONS TOTALING OVER $62,000. THIS INCLUDES FUNDS COLLECTED FROM MEMBERS AT EVENTS AS DESCRIBED IN THE ABOVE TWO PARAGRAPHS, AS WELL AS FUNDS FROM THE CLUB GENERAL ACCOUNT. IN ADDITION, $15,000 WAS AWARDED IN SCHOLARSHIPS TO FIVE SANTA MONICA HIGH SCHOOL SENIORS. THESE SPECIFIC SCHOLARSHIPS AND AWARDS CAME FROM A FUND SET UP IN MEMORY OF THE CLUB FOUNDER, ELMIRA T. STEPHENS. THE LOCATION OF MOST OF THE CLUB EVENTS IS THE CLUBHOUSE OF THE SANTA MONICA BAY WOMAN'S CLUB LOCATED IN SANTA MONICA, BUILT IN 1914 AND DESIGNATED A SANTA MONICA HISTORIC LANDMARK IN 1991. THIS CLUBHOUSE IS NOT ONLY USED FOR MOST OF THE MEMBER EVENTS DESCRIBED ABOVE BUT IS ALSO USED FOR CULTURAL, CIVIC, EDUCATIONAL, SOCIAL AND OTHER EVENTS.
