Organizations Filed Purposes: THE MISSION OF THE ORGANIZATION IS TO ENSURE SAFETY FOR PEOPLE WHO ARE BATTERED, ABUSED, OR AT RISK; TO CREATE PUBLIC AWARENESS ABOUT THE EPIDEMIC OF VIOLENCE; AND TO MOBILIZE THE COMMUNITY TO PREVENT VIOLENCE AND END THIS RECURRING PHENOMENON. ITS GOAL IS TO RESTORE A SENSE OF DIGNITY, SELF-SUFFICIENCY AND INCREASED INDEPENDENCE IN WOMEN, MEN, CHILDREN AND THEIR FAMILIES, ENABLING THEM TO RECLAIM THEIR LIVES AND ACHIEVE LONG-TERM SAFETY AND SUCCESS.

SHELTER AND HOUSINGINTERVAL HOUSE IS A FIVE-TIME U.S. PRESIDENTIAL AWARD-WINNING PROGRAM, NATIONALLY RECOGNIZED FOR PIONEERING COMPREHENSIVE SHELTER AND SUPPORTIVE SERVICES FOR VICTIMS OF DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AND THEIR CHILDREN SINCE 1979. THE AGENCY OPERATES A FULL CONTINUUM OF SERVICES AT SIX EMERGENCY SHELTERS AND TRANSITIONAL HOUSING SITES, AND 12 COMPREHENSIVE COMMUNITY SERVICE AND SATELLITE CENTERS IN THE HIGH-RISK COMMUNITIES OF LOS ANGELES AND ORANGE COUNTIES. SINCE ITS DOORS FIRST OPENED, INTERVAL HOUSE HAS HOUSED OVER 20,000 INDIVIDUALS, SERVED OVER 3 MILLION MEALS, AND COUNSELED OVER 800,000 VICTIMS. INTERVAL HOUSE IS DISTINGUISHED BY ITS UNIQUE CULTURAL AND LINGUISTIC EXPERTISE. OVER 98% OF INTERVAL HOUSE'S STAFF AND ADVOCATES ARE MULTILINGUAL, ETHNICALLY DIVERSE, AND HAVE BEEN PERSONALLY AFFECTED BY DOMESTIC VIOLENCE - - OFFERING COMPREHENSIVE SERVICES IN OVER 70 DIFFERENT LANGUAGES. ALTHOUGH INTERVAL HOUSE HAS HISTORICALLY SPECIALIZED IN INTERVENTION AND PREVENTION SERVICES FOR VICTIMS OF DOMESTIC VIOLENCE, IT HAS EXPANDED TREMENDOUSLY OVER THE PAST 20 YEARS INTO WORKING WITH HOMELESSNESS AND HOUSING ISSUES. INTERVAL HOUSE'S MULTIFACETED CONTINUUM OF HOUSING PROGRAMS INCLUDES EMERGENCY SHELTERS, TRANSITIONAL HOUSING, AND PERMANENT HOUSING AND RENTAL ASSISTANCE PROGRAMS. DOMESTIC VIOLENCE SHELTERS: INTERVAL HOUSE OPENED ITS FIRST EMERGENCY SHELTER IN 1979, SERVING AS THE FOUNDATIONAL "LIFELINE" FOR VICTIMS OF DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AND THEIR CHILDREN IN CRISIS, AND OPENED THE NATION'S FIRST TRANSITIONAL DOMESTIC VIOLENCE SHELTER IN 1980, OFFERING CONTINUED SUPPORT TO FAMILIES THAT NEED A LONGER TRANSITION PERIOD TO BECOME SELF-SUFFICIENT, CONTRIBUTING MEMBERS OF THEIR COMMUNITIES. TODAY, THE AGENCY OPERATES SIX CONFIDENTIALLY LOCATED EMERGENCY SHELTERS AND TRANSITIONAL HOUSING SITES FOR DOMESTIC VIOLENCE VICTIMS AND THEIR CHILDREN.PERMANENT HOUSING PROGRAMS: INTERVAL HOUSE IS RECOGNIZED AS A "MODEL" HOUSING PROGRAM BY THE U.S. DEPARTMENT OF HOUSING AND URBAN DEVELOPMENT (HUD) FOR TAILORING CUTTING-EDGE HOUSING APPROACHES AND PROGRAMS TO MEET THE SPECIALIZED NEEDS OF UNDERSERVED HOMELESS AND AT-RISK INDIVIDUALS AND FAMILIES. INTERVAL HOUSE IS THE LARGEST PROVIDER OF RENTAL ASSITANCE PROGRAMS IN ITS REGION, WITH A SPECIALIZATION IN SERVING HIGH-NEED HOUSEHOLDS FACING A MULTITUDE OF COMPLEX CULTURAL, LINGUISTIC AND ECONOMIC BARRIERS TO HOUSING STABILITY. INTERVAL HOUSE HAS BEEN AT THE FOREFRONT OF HOMELESSNESS PREVENTION AND RAPID REHOUSING, HAVING STARTED THE NATION'S FIRST DOMESTIC VIOLENCE RAPID REHOUSING PROGRAM (1995) AND WAS FOR 20 YEARS THE ONLY DOMESTIC VIOLENCE PROGRAM UTILIZING THE HOUSING FIRST BEST PRACTICE MODEL. THE AGENCY SINCE BEEN CONTINUOUSLY RECOGNIZED BY HUD REPRESENTATIVES FOR ITS EXCELLENT LEADERSHIP IN THE HOMELESSNESS PREVENTION AND RAPID REHOUSING ARENA FOR DEVELOPING A SUCCESSFUL PROGRAMMATIC AND OPERATING SYSTEM THAT ROUTINELY EXCEEDS ALL HOUSING AND FINANCIAL EXPENDITURE GOALS. REGIONAL HOUSING SYSTEMS HAVE ALSO ADOPTED THE ORGANIZATION'S DATA COLLECTION METHODS AS THEIR STANDARDIZED TOOLS. THE ORGANIZATION CURRENTLY OPERATES NUMEROUS RAPID RE-HOUSING SCATTERED SITES AND EXCLUSIVE LINKAGES TO RENTAL HOUSING, INCLUDING BEING THE ADOPTED CHARITY PARTNER FOR THE APARTMENT ASSOCIATION, SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA CITIES.

THESE "GRADUATES" DEMONSTRATE, IN A HEARTWARMING AND INSPIRATIONAL WAY, HOW FORMERLY BATTERED WOMEN CAN BECOME OUTSTANDING EDUCATORS, ADVOCATES AND LEADERS IN THEIR COMMUNITIES.
