The Sebastiani Theatre Foundation is dedicated to offering first-class performing arts, films and creative educational programs that inspire and entertain the entire community while preserving and enhancing Sonoma's treasured, historic Theatre for the enjoyment of current and future generations.
As of December 1, 2018, the Foundation took over the management and operations of the Theatre when the former operators declined to renew their contract to ensure that the Sebastiani Theatre remains a valued historic building in downtown Sonoma. The activities of the Sebastiani Theatre are now wholly governed by the Foundation Board of Directors. The Foundation remains partnered with the City of Sonoma in this endeavor which substantially subsidizes the Foundation's rent.The Foundation's activities assisted in maintaining the historic Sebastiani Theatre in 2019 through the payment of repairs to both building and equipment, working with both the landlord and the City of Sonoma in lease negotiations and upgrades required by the Americans with Disabilities Act, working on the ADA Barrier Removal plans and submitting for a building permit in November of 2019, providing volunteers for the Theatre's events, and providing many other services that help sustain the theatre as a place for the Sonoma Valley community to enjoy live performances and world class films.To fund needed improvements to the theater, the Foundation formed a capital campaign committee in 2017. In 2019, the Foundation furthered the historical review of the building and continued to work with architects to establish a renovation plan for the theater complex. To that end, the Foundation engaged a professional fundraiser to manage the capital campaign and continue to work with the architects.
