CONNECTING NATURE, PEOPLE, AND SCIENCE IN A RAPIDLY CHANGING WORLD
In our Stewardship work, ACR supports the health and resilience of ecological systems that sustain the natural character and richness of our nature preserves and surrounding regions. We do this work by mitigating environmental threats, managing invasions by harmful species, restoring native species, reintroducing natural processes, and repairing damaged habitats. Because we understand that land management and stewardship is a regional undertaking, we take a regional and landscape-level approach by working in partnership with other organizations, indigenous peoples, conservation scientists, land managers, and private landowners to improve habitat connectivity, protect keystone species, manage landscapes for wildfire reduction, and share resources and information.
ACRs Conservation Science Program continues to develop science-based approaches to taking care of our lands and surrounding areas. In 2019, we entered our 53rd year of monitoring all heron and egret nesting attempts in Bolinas Lagoon, our 30th year of monitoring the status of wintering water birds and shorebirds on Tomales Bay and our 30th consecutive year of monitoring the status of nesting herons and egretsat all known colony sites in the northern San Francisco Bay Area.Continued on Schedule O
ACR provides environmental and conservation education programs to a wide diversity of people across the greater San Francisco Bay area. These programs provide participants with opportunities for positive engagement and connection with nature, encourage them to cultivate curiosity about and deepen knowledge of the natural world, enable them to foster an understanding of the reciprocal relationship between the wellbeing of humans and that of the natural world, and motivate them to take informed action to positively impact the natural world.
