Through our work we provide local government and communities with the tools to safely adapt to rapidly changing conditions and co-create a climate-resilient future.
Water LA Neighborhood Retrofits Project: Building on the successful Los Angeles Rainwater Harvesting Project, this project extends our program of urban acupuncture by working with residents in the climate-vunerable community of Altadena in the upper LA River watershed to implement 20 parkway basins and 20 residential retrofits. The River Project continued our series of hands-on workshops, finalized designs for the parkway basins and residential retrofits, and advanced individual projects implementation. Field work did not proceed during the pandemic lockdown.
Water LA Parkway Basin Project: Partnering with the County of Los Angeles to site, design, implement, monitor, and steward 30 Parkway Basins in the disadvantaged and climate-vulnerable communities of Florence-Firestone, Los Nietos, and Basset. The River Project completed installation of all 30 basins, continued in-situ monitoring, and supported ongoing community stewardship. In-field and in person community engagement was suspended during the pandemic lockdown.
Upper Los Angeles River Tributaries Plan: The River Project supported the Mountains Recreation Conservation Authority with community education and engagement to support the development of a plan for projects in disadvantaged neighborhoods along tributary corridors in the upper watershed. We completed the community education and engagement phase and provided technical expertise on the draft and final Plan documents.
