Organizations Filed Purposes:
The Sierra State Parks Foundation provides critically needed financial and professional support to the Lake Tahoe-Donner Sierra State Parks for Education, Restoration, and Cultural and Environmental Preservation in partnership with California State Parks.
Education and Interpretation: (1) We provided 29,774 guided tours of the historic house museums located at Emerald Bay and Sugar Pine Point State Parks. This includes 2,417 school group students. (2) We financially supported three positions within State Parks for the delivery of interpretive and educational programming to include campfire programs, on-line classroom experiences and talks. These SSPF supported programs reached 5,609 park visitors in 2019.
Restoration and Preservation: We worked closely with our State Park partners to identify and complete unfunded critical needs to ensure the sustainability of our cultural and natural resources. 2019 accomplishments include (1) provided 24 weeks of salary for a State Park Restoration Specialist performing daily maintenance tasks at Vikingsholm and the Hellman-Ehrnam Mansion; (2) completed multi-year garden restoration in front of the Hellman-Ehrman Mansion; (3) planted 14 native species of wildflowers on the Vikingsholm sod roof; (4) provided 24 weeks of salary for a State Park Historic Gardens Landscaper at Sugar Pine Point; and (5) provided funds to enable the contracting of the Pioneer Monument restoration to be completed in 2020.
Sustainability: We strive to inspire future generations through funding projects and initiatives to sustain out parklands. We (1) engaged 100 volunteers who donated 1,450 hours; (2) sponsored speakers and attended numerous community outreach events; and (3) engaged one university intern during the summer months and support our team members to engage in outreach projects that support our mission.
