Hospice of the Conejo is a non-medical, community-based volunteer hospice and grief support center providing high quality support to the terminally ill and their family members in their homes and care facilities, in addition to offering therapist-led grief support to people of all ages struggling with loss under any circumstance. All services are offered at no charge. Volunteers provided 4,785 hours of service to patients and their family members in 2018. Additional hours were provided for administrative and operational support in 2018.
Hospice of the Conejo provides assistance to people in their final stages of life through the use of highly trained volunteers who offer personalized emotional, social, and spiritual support. Care, education, and other support are given to each patient's immediate family members, including respite from the daily responsibility of caring for a loved one. In 2018, terminally ill patients and their family members received our care, often for the long term as Hopsice of the Conejo is not bound by Medicare's limitation of care only in a patient's final six months of life. These patients and families were served by our staff and volunteers. All hospice services are provided at no cost.
Through our Grief Support Center, Hospice of the Conejo presents many group meetings each month, in addition to individual sessions as needed. Clients of all ages were served in 2018. Grief sessions are provided within a number of programs that focus on clients from different circumstances, including: Seniors who are now widows or widowers; adults and young adults dealing with loss of a spouse or partner; parents who have lost a child, an infant, or endured a loss during pregnancy. Sessions are also offered in Spanish to recent immigrants from Mexico, Central and South America, most of who are within very low to exrememely low income levels. All grief programs are offered at no cost.
Specialized bereavement support is offered to teens and children, especially when a family members has been diagnosed with a terminal illness or is facing death. Additional programs include NODA, no one dies alone and patient pet support. The organization also provides information to the community regarding hospice and bereavement issues.
