The Roundhouse is a non-profit makerspace that supports the teaching, learning, and practicing of a wide variety of crafts, skills, technologies, and arts in the Truckee-Tahoe community.
2019 was the third full year of operations for the Roundhouse. We completed our expansion project and now have over 4,800 sq feet of space for our 5 shops: wood, metal, textiles, ceramics, and technology. During this year, we increased our membership to 241 members. In 2019, we had over 4000 visits in addition to the 1044 visits through our school and community programs. We partnered with school and community groups and local non-profits to increase the communities we serve, adding 6 new partnerships including AIM HIGH, a program that served middle school students mostly beneath the poverty line. We continued to offer to the public 30 informal non-credit classes each month to teach new skills and the use of shop tools. We also partnered with the Town of Truckee to offer Free Fix It events to Fix items and keep them out of local landfills while empowering community members to learn new skills. The Maker Show which provides an opportunity for community members, including but not restricted to Roundhouse members, to showcase their efforts and talents by sharing their creations was held again in June with over 1200 attendees. Over 40 volunteers help to keep the space running and gave over 5600 hours of service in 2019.
