Organizations Filed Purposes: To inform, empower and mobilize county residents to survive and thrive in a wildfire-prone environment.

The largest single component of the Council's operation was providing project management services for grant-funded projects to reduce fire fuel loads in Mendocino County. During the fiscal year the Council completed road clearing work in the Hopland and McNab Road areas which was funded by a grant from PG&E. In early 2020 the Council completed substantial preliminary work for two larger projects, such as holding community education forums, obtaining land owner access permissions, and preparing and filing environmental compliance documentation. First, the Mendocino County Fire Preparedness Program will eventually provide over 10 miles of road clearing and numerous community chipping service days in the Brooktrails and Williams Ranch Road areas. The Brooktrails component of that project was more than 50% completed in the fiscal year. Second, the Ukiah Valley Fire Fuels Reduction project, the first component of which is 17 miles of roadside clearing work along key ingress/egress routes around the Ukiah Valley, had completed over 75% of that work by the end of the fiscal year. MCFSC also purchased its own wood chipper, which will increase its ability to deliver community chipping services and reduce related costs in future years.

Community Development and Education: Increase community awareness regarding fire prevention and mitigation through outreach and education. Produced and distributed 1,000 copies of "Living with Wildfire in Mendocino County." Produced and aired public service announcements on three local radio stations concerning wildfire preparedness. Developed audio and video wildfire preparedness training materials in both Spanish and English. Organized 5 new neighborhood councils and provided developmental support to 14 other neighborhood councils.
