NextGen Leadership Academy Program Service Accomplishments: 2019Beginning in January of 2019 the Ignite young adult Core leadership team of college students met weekly to design a new Ignite Camp to be held for the first time on the east coast. The team was self-generated out of their personal and positive experience as participants in past Ignite camps. The core team designed the schedule, established the location, generated the marketing for funding, volunteers and participants. Ignite is a 5-day experiential leadership outdoor adventure camp. The program is designed to create leaders. Participants are challenged to take ownership of their lives. They gain tools for building confidence and practicing effective communication & leadership skills. Evaluation surveys resulted in 98% of participants say the camp had a lasting positive impact on their lives. Participants state that self-confidence, courage, and inter-personal relationship skills are the top three outcomes. Participants and volunteers created personal micro commitments and participated in a year-long follow up program over Zoom. This structure provided the opportunity for peer mentorship as they supported each other in honoring their personal leadership commitments and in forming new habits. Some specific outcomes from past participants - I have greater motivation to do well in college; I'm taking on leadership roles on campus; I have a mentor/coach; I applied for jobs that I thought I wasn't qualified for; enrolled in other leadership programs to further my personal growth and development; following my interests rather than what I thought was expected of me.
