July 2019-June 2020 program update:Four new installations in Guatemala during the second half of 2019 at schools and churches. Since July 2019 there were three systems installed in Cuba at churches (two in December 2019 and one in February 2020). Due to COVID-19, we were not able to send teams into Guatemala to complete the planned installations begin in March. But, new opportunities opened up with collaboration between LWWM Guatemalan staff and the Guatemalan government. This collaboration led to LWWM systems being installed at temporary regional hospitals for COVID-19 patients. By June 2020 there were two systems installed with an additional one installed in October 2020. The LWWM Guatemala staff was also able to repair a water system at a military base which had been installed by another organization. The system materials and replacement filters for our systems in Guatemala that have continued to operate throughout the pandemic were shipped from the United States to our staff in Guatemala. During the six church and school installations in Guatemala and Cuba (Prior to COVID-19) there were approximately 782 children that participated in the health and hygiene education program along with at least 130 adults. Staff produced six training videos to assist operators at 80 systems in Guatemala as travel within Guatemala was limited due to COVID-19 restrictions by the government. Maintenance visits to at least 30 system partners did occur during the fiscal year 2019-2020, which in most cases involved the replacement of parts. By the end of 2019 there were 48 newly trained operators through LWWM Operator Certification Program. Approximately 20 of these were between July and October of 2019, prior to the pandemic. In the three installations in Cuba, approximately six operators were trained to operate those systems. The Operator's Conference in November 2019 was attended by 134 system partners and other guests. The combined 86 LWWM systems in Guatemala and Cuba between July 2019 and June 2020 produced 20,476,776 gallons of clean water.
