WORK-BASED LEARNING IS DEFINED AS AN EDUCATIONAL APPROACH THAT PROVIDES STUDENTS WITH THE KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS THAT WILL HELP THEM CONNECT SCHOOL EXPERIENCES TO REAL-LIFE, WORK ACTIVITIES AND FUTURE CAREER OPPORTUNITIES. A QUALITY WORK-BASED LEARNING PROGRAM IS AN INTEGRAL PART OF A COMPREHENSIVE PROGRAM THAT INTEGRATES ACADEMIC COURSES AND CAREER TECHNICAL EDUCATION. EXAMPLES OF WORK-BASED LEARNING INCLUDE WORKPLACE TOURS, INFORMATIONAL INTERVIEWS, INTERNSHIPS, JOB SHADOWING AND TEACHER EXTERNSHIPS.
THE CONTRA COSTA ECONOMIC PARTNERSHIP'S STEM WORKFORCE INITIATIVE CONDUCTS INTERMEDIARY ACTIVITIES BETWEEN BUSINESS AND EDUCATION TO ENSURE A WORKFORCE PIPELINE TO MEET THE INDUSTRY GROWTH NEEDS OF THE REGION. THROUGH ALIGNMENT OF HIGH-WAGE, HIGH-SKILL, HIGH-DEMAND INDUSTRY WORKFORCE NEEDS AND THE HIGH SCHOOL STEM CAREER-THEMED ACADEMIES IMPLEMENTATION, ALONG WITH POST-SECONDARY EDUCATION AND TRAINING OPTIONS, THIS INITIATIVE WILL INCREASE THE TALENT POOL OF REGIONAL STEM WORKERS ALIGNED WITH PROJECTED JOB OPPORTUNITIES, WILL HELP TRANSITION HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATES INTO PURPOSEFUL POST-SECONDARY EDUCATION, AND WILL PROMOTE LOCAL RECRUITING AND HIRING OF QUALIFIED STEM WORKERS.
THE CCEP ACTS AS THE FISCAL AGENT AND COORDINATOR FOR THE EAST BAY BROADBAND CONSORTIUM, CONSISTING OF THE CCEP, EAST BAY EDA AND SOLANO ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION WHICH IS SEEKING TO CLOSE THE DIGITAL DIVIDE AND TO DEPLOY TECHNOLOGY FOR USE BY LOW-INCOME RESIDENTS IN UNDERSERVED COMMUNITIES.
