Promote and Support Educational Excellence and Equity.
CABE is an advocacy organization that promotes public awareness throught advocacy and information about English Learner Education, the best practicies. Each year scholarships and awards are given and bilingual education is promoted. This is done through information campaigns, publications, website and regional and statewide advocacy related to issues relevant to English learners. This work is taken to the local level by our membership and affiliates. During the fiscal year ended June 30, 2020 we awarded five scholarhsips and eight awards, produced one periodical, twelve online newsletters, and one website. Information Campaigns is a term used to loosely describe the information we send out on different issues. CABE does not engage in specific political campaigns.
Regional and annual conferences provide professional development to educators and parents to promote effective practices for English Learners that make up 25% of the student population in California. One Annual and fiveRegional Conferences were scheduled for the fiscal year ended June 30, 2020. We were able to hold three in person Regional Conferences, however due to COVID-19, the annual conference was held over the internet as a virtual venue for speakers and resources, and two scheduled regional conferences in April and May were cancelled.
The California State Parent information Resource Center, Funded by the U.S Department of Education, offers a parent leadership development program to districts and schools. During the fiscal year ended June 30, 2020, 254 parents participated through Project Delight, OELA/USDOE grant.
