NATIONAL PROGRAMS STATE LEADERSHIP SEMINARS HOBY CONDUCTED 70 LEADERSHIP SEMINARS, COVERI NG 49 STATES 10,122 STUDENTS REGISTERED, REPRESENTI NG 6,310 SCHOOLS, FOR A SEMINAR USING THE SOCIAL CHANGE MODEL OF LEADERSHIP DEVELOPED AT UCLA, OUR PROGRAM INSPIRES YOUTH TO DEVELOP CRITICAL THINKING, TEAM-BUI LDING AND GOAL-SEDING SKILLS BY EXPLORING THEIR SELF-KNOWLEDGE AND FACILITATE POSITIVE SOCIAL CHANGE IN THEIR COMMUNITY THE SOCIAL CHANGE MODEL OF LEADERSHIPIS THE FRAMEWORK FOR HOBY PROGRAMS AND EMPHASIZES "CHANGE" AS THE ULTIMATE GOAL OF THE CREATIVE PROCESS OF LEADERSHIP--TO MAKE A BEDER WORLD AND A BEDER SOCIETY FOR OURSELVES AND OTHERS (SEE SCHEDULE 0 FOR CONTINUATION OF PROGRAM ACTIVITIES DESCRIPTION)THE FOCUS ON INDIVIDUAL GROWTH TO CREATE POSITIVE SOCIETAL CHANGE, REALIZES HOBY'S VISION TO MOTIVATE AND EMPOWER INDIVIDUALS TO MAKE A POSITIVE DIFFERENCE WITHIN OUR GLOBAL SOCIETY THROUGH UNDERSTANDING AND ACTION BASED ON EFFECTIVE AND COMPASSIONATE LEADERSHIP AS A RESULT OF PARTICIPATING IN THE HOBY LEADERSHIP SEMINAR, STUDENTS GAIN SUPERIOR CRITICAL THINKING SKILLS, THEABI LITY TO IDENTIFY AND TAP INTO THEIR PERSONAL LEADERSHIP STRENGTHS, IMPROVED GOAL-SEDING SKILLS HOBY YOUTH NOT ONLY GAIN AN UNDERSTANDING OF AND A COMMITMENT TO THE IMPORTANCE OF LEADERSHIP AND SERVICE BUT THE TOOLS TO BECOME YOUNG LEADERS FOR THE CAUSES THAT ARE MOST IMPORTANT TO THEMSELVES AND THEIR PEERS COMMUNITY LEADERSHIP WORKSHOPS HOBY CONDUCTED 21 COMMUNITY LEADERSHIP WORKSHOPS (CLEWS) IN 11 STATES, 707 STUDENTS PARTICIPATED CLEWS ARE A ONE DAY LEADERSHIP PROGRAM FOR HIGH SCHOOL FRESHMAN WHICH PROVIDES STUDENTS WITH THE "HOBY EXPERIENCE " CLEW STUDENTS INTERACT WITH COMMUNITY LEADERS AND PARTICIPATE IN GROUP ACTIVITIES AND COMMUNITY SERVICE CLEWS ARE ORGANIZED, DEVELOPED ANDIMPLEMENTED BY LOCAL BUSINESS LEADERS, CIVIC GROUPS, VOLUNTEERS AND HOBY ALUMNI HOBY'S LEADERSHIP FOR SERVICE MODULE IS A KEY PART OF HOBY PROGRAMS STUDIES HAVE SHOWN THAT SERVICE LEARNING ENHANCES THE MOTIVATION TO LEARN AND IS ASSOCIATED WITH BOTH INCREASED SCHOOL ADENDANCE AND REDUCED DROPOUT RATES IN ITS REPORT "LEARNING IN DEED," THE NATIONAL COMMISSION ON SERVICE LEARNING REPORTED THE FOLLOWING ADDITIONAL BENEFITS OF SERVICE LEARNING (1) GAINS ON ACHI EVEMENT TESTS, (2) MORE FREQUENT COMPLETION OF HOMEWORK, (3) PROMOTION OF SOCIAL RESPONSIBI LITY, (4) DISPLAY OF FEWER DISCIPLINARY PROBLEMS, AND (5) LOWER TENDENCY TOWARD RISKY BEHAVIORS THAT LEAD TO PREGNANCY OR ARREST ADVANCED LEADERSHIP ACADEMY HOBY CONDUCTED ONE ADVANCED LEADERSHIP ACADEMY 55 STUDENTS ADENDED, 41 (76%) OF WHOM WERE HOBY ALUMNI AND 14 (25%) WERE NEW TO HOBY STUDENTS CAME FROM 22 DIFFERENT STATES LEADERSHIP FOR SERVICE HOBY PROVIDES STUDENTS WITH NEW OPPORTUNITIES FOR PERSONAL GROWTH AND POSITIVE PEER INFLUENCE, AS WELL AS THE EDUCATION, ROLE MODELS, MOTIVATION AND SUPPORT TO SUCCEED LAST YEAR 17,404 HOURS OF SERVICE WERE LOGGED INTO OUR EXCLUSIVE LEADERSHIP 4 SERVICE DATABASE BY 1,259 ALUMNI SINCE INCEPTION, HOBY YOUTH HAVE LOGGED 4,072,672 HOURS OF COMMUNITY SERVICE
TRAINING INSTITUTE OVER 4,000 VOLUNTEERS DEDICATE OVER 1,000,000 HOURS OF SERVICE IN SUPPORT OF HOBY PROGRAMS VOLUNTEERS ARE INDESPENSIBLE IN THE PLANNING, ORGANIZATION AND EXECUTION OF ALL HOBY PROGRAMS HOBY SUPPORTS VOLUNTEERS THROUGH TARGETED TRAINING, TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE, CONSULTATION AND NETWORKING 176 VOLUNTEERS PARTICIPATED IN OUR ANNUAL VOLUNTEER TRAINING INSTITUTE, WHERE THEY LEARN ABOUT VOLUNTEER RECRUITMENT, PROGRAM DEVELOPMENT AND EXECUTION, FUNDRAISING AND ORGANIZATIONAL COMPLIANCE
