The mission of the Organization is to promote the health, safety and welfare of animals and children in the City of Santa Ana. This mission will be accomplished with various activities. The activities will include the following, Spay-Neuter Program for companion animals within the City of Santa Ana. This service will be provided to City residents at a reduced cost or free. This program is designed to reduce the number of city animals being killed in the animal shelter. It is anticipated that 95% of the organization's funds will be directed to this activity. The program was started as planned. A successful program will eliminate the killing of adoptable animals at the shelter. Services are being provided by licensed veterinarians under contract with the Santa Ana Friends for the Animals, volunteers and staff of the City of Santa Ana Animal Services.
The spay-neuter program began in early 2004. The program was launched with 156 dogs and cats being treated from June through December 2004. The services were provided free of charge or reduced in cost to the citizens of the City of Santa Ana who qualified.The program continues to grow due to public awareness through the City of Santa Ana and Police Department Animal Control.
