THE PURPOSE OF THE JOSHUA M. FREEMAN FOUNDATION IS CREATING OPPORTUNITIES THAT ELEVATE THE HUMAN SPIRIT. WE ACCOMPLISH OUR PURPOSE VIA OUR MISSION: ADVANCING ARTS ACCESS FOR ALL THROUGH PERFORMANCE, EDUCATION, AND ADVOCACY. IN 2019, THE JOSHUA M. FREEMAN FOUNDATION PRESENTED 163 PERFORMANCES BETWEEN ITS MAINSTAGE SUMMER PROGRAMS AT THE FREEMAN STAGE AND ITS ARTS ACCESS INITIATIVE WITHIN SCHOOLS AND THE COMMUNITY. 85,860 PATRONS OF ALL AGES ENJOYED ARTS EXPERIENCES PRESENTED BY THE ORGANIZATION AND 915 ARTISTS PERFORMED THROUGHOUT 2019. THE MAIN PROGRAM IS THE FREEMAN STAGE-AN OUTDOOR PERFORMING ARTS VENUE IN SELBYVILLE, DELAWARE. A TOTAL OF 62 PERFORMANCES WHICH INCLUDED A WIDE RANGE OF GENRES WERE PRESENTED IN 2019 TO OVER 61,294 PATRONS BETWEEN LATE MAY AND MID-SEPTEMBER. THE ARTS ACCESS INITIATIVE OF THE ORGANIZATION FOCUSES TO ENSURE THAT EVERYONE HAS THE OPPORTUNITY TO ENJOY HIGH QUALITY, DIVERSE ARTS PROGRAMMING. THE ARTS ACCESS INITIATIVE INCLUDES FREE PROGRAMMING AT THE FREEMAN STAGE, COMMUNITY ACCESS, ARTS IN EDUCATION, AND THE YOUNG AUDIENCE SERIES. A MAJORITY OF THE 2019 PERFORMANCES WERE FREE INCLUDING THE YOUNG AUDIENCE SERIES WHICH FOCUSES ON PROGRAMMING FOR CHILDREN IN PRE-KINDERGARTEN THROUGH ELEMENTARY SCHOOL. ADDITIONALLY, MANY OF THE PAID PERFORMANCES INCLUDED FREE ADMISSION FOR CHILDREN 12 AND UNDER. ONE PROGRAM OF THE ARTS ACCESS INITIATIVE IS THE COMMUNITY ACCESS PROGRAM THAT PROVIDES FREE ADMISSION TO NON-PROFIT ORGANIZATIONS THAT SUPPORT AT-RISK AND UNDERSERVED RESIDENTS AND CHILDREN. IN 2019, 740 PEOPLE PARTICIPATED IN THE COMMUNITY ACCESS PROGRAM. IN ADDITION TO PERFORMANCES AT THE FREEMAN STAGE, THE ORGANIZATION OFFERS ITS ARTS IN EDUCATION PROGRAM AS ANOTHER FACET OF THE ARTS ACCESS INITIATIVE. WE PARTNER WITH ALL NINE SCHOOL DISTRICTS IN SUSSEX COUNTY, DE AND SCHOOLS IN WORCESTER COUNTY AND WICOMICO COUNTY, MD TO INTRODUCE AND ENGAGE STUDENTS IN GRADES PRE-KINDERGARTEN THROUGH 12 IN A VARIETY OF DIVERSE ARTS PROGRAMS WHICH INCLUDE POETRY, VISUAL ARTS, LITERARY ARTS, MUSIC, DANCE, THEATRE AND MORE. A TOTAL OF 101 PROGRAMS WERE PRESENTED IN 2019 TO OVER 24,566 STUDENTS IN 60 SCHOOLS IN OUR GEOGRAPHIC FOOTPRINT. THE ECONOMIC IMPACT THAT THE JOSHUA M. FREEMAN FOUNDATION BRINGS TO THE REGION IS SUBSTANTIAL. IN ADDITION TO ITS FULL-TIME STAFF OF 13, THE ORGANIZATION HIRES SEASONAL STAFF AND BOOSTS EMPLOYMENT FOR OVER 900 ARTISTS. ITS ROBUST VOLUNTEER PROGRAM DONATED 15,781 HOURS IN 2019 WHICH IS VALUED AT OVER $400,000 AND THE VOLUNTEERS WERE AWARDED THE 2019 GOVERNOR'S OUTSTANDING VOLUNTEER SERVICE AWARD. BASED ON INDICATORS, THE JOSHUA M. FREEMAN FOUNDATION HAS CONTRIBUTED AN ESTIMATED $10,000,000 IN ECONOMIC IMPACT TO THE LOCAL ECONOMY SINCE ITS INCEPTION IN 2008. 2019 MARKED THE 12TH SEASON AND ALL ASPECTS OF THE PROGRAM HAVE CONTINUED TO GROW EACH YEAR-NUMBER OF PERFORMANCES, DONORS, PATRONS, STUDENTS, STAFF, AND VOLUNTEERS. THIS GROWTH AND COMMITMENT TO OUR MISSION PROVIDES THE OPPORTUNITY TO POSITIVELY IMPACT THE COMMUNITY THROUGH THE ARTS IN NUMEROUS WAYS INCLUDING ECONOMIC IMPACT, AUDIENCE ENGAGEMENT, ARTS FOR CHILDREN, VOLUNTEERISM, AND ENHANCED QUALITY OF LIFE IN THE REGION. GIVEN OUR INCREASED ATTENDANCE AND GROWTH, WE ARE IN THE FINAL PLANNING STAGES OF BUILDING A LARGER VENUE TO BETTER ACCOMMODATE THE CONTINUED FAVORABLE RESPONSE OF OUR PROGRAMS AND TO BECOME A SUSTAINABLE ARTS ORGANIZATION FOR YEARS TO COME.
