Statement of Program Service AccomplishmentsIn FY18, AFFIRM Research funded three research studies on firearm injury prevention: Development of a Consensus-driven Educational Curriculum on Firearm Injury; Rural Emergency Department Firearm Assessment, Screening, and Treatment (FAST) Trial; and Firearm Injuries and Recidivism at St. Louis Level I Trauma Hospitals.AFFIRM created monthly educational social media campaigns featuring a series of infographics and published over 20 blog posts featuring unique perspective pieces and educational content on topics related to all forms of preventable firearm injuries (suicide, intimate partner violence, mass/targeted violence, community violence and accidental injuries). AFFIRM also initiated our novel, narrative-based education curriculum for healthcare providers and community stakeholders, entitled "Reframe".AFFIRM leadership and volunteers presented at more than twenty professional symposia and workshops on violence prevention and public health, and trained more than 3,000 healthcare providers. In February 2019, AFFIRM held its Second Annual Retreat and was attended by 45 medical leaders representing 20 diverse professional medical organizations. At this gathering of thought leaders, we discussed the AFFIRM strategic plan which resulted in the above developments. The volunteer staff and leadership of AFFIRM contributed more than 10,000 hours of donated professional time in FY18 to realize the above accomplishments.
