SCENIC AND HISTORIC BYWAYSTHE ORGANIZATION CONTINUED ITS LEADERSHIP ROLE IN THE DEVELOPMENT AND MANAGEMENT OF THREE BYWAYS IN DELAWARE; BRANDYWINE VALLEY NATIONAL SCENIC BYWAY, DELAWARE BAYSHORE BYWAY, AND THE HISTORIC LEWES BYWAY. AN UPDATE TO THE CORRIDOR MANAGEMENT PLAN FOR THE BRANDYWINE VALLEY NATIONAL SCENIC BYWAY WAS COMPLETED AND SIGNED BY DELAWARE'S SECRETARY OF TRANSPORTATION. HISTORIC LEWES BYWAY COMMITTEE COMPLETED A STRATEGIC EXERCISE IDENTIFYING PRIORITIES FOR THE NEXT TWO YEARS. WORK IS UNDERWAY ON THE EXTENSION OF THE DELAWARE BAYSHORE BYWAY, AND PROJECTS FOCUSED ON THE ENHANCEMENT AND PROTECTION OF THE INTRINSIC QUALITIES OF EACH OF THESE TREASURED CORRIDORS CONTINUED IN COORDINATION WITH EACH BYWAY MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE. HISTORIC PENN FARMAS A PART OF THE ORGANIZATION'S STRATEGIC PLAN FOR 2019-2021, IT WAS THE DECISION OF THE BOARD THAT DGI'S WORK AS MANAGING TENANT OF HISTORIC PENN FARM (HPF) WAS NOT CONSISTENT WITH THE ORGANIZATION'S MISSION AND VISION, AND THAT DGI SHOULD BEGIN WORK TO DEVELOP A FUTURE APART FROM HPF. WORKING COLLABORATIVELY WITH THE OWNER OF HISTORIC PENN FARM, THE TRUSTEES OF NEW CASTLE COMMON, AN AGREEMENT WAS REACHED TO RELEASE DGI FROM ITS LEASE EFFECTIVE DECEMBER 31, 2019.TRAILS AND PATHWAYSADVOCATING FOR THE EXPANSION OF MULTIMODAL NETWORKS AND PROMOTING THE USE OF DELAWARE'S OUTDOOR RESOURCES IS AT THE CORE OF THE ORGANIZATION'S TRAILS AND PATHWAYS PROGRAM. THREE-YEAR GOALS (2019-2021) FOR TRAIL DEVELOPMENT WERE APPROVED BY THE ORGANIZATION'S BOARD OF DIRECTORS. IN DGI'S WORK SNAPSHOT FOR 2019, WE (1) CONTINUED OUR PARTICIPATION IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE WILMINGTON AND NEW CASTLE COUNTY BICYCLE POLICY PLANS; (2) COORDINATED THE WORK OF THE FUTURE TRAILS OF NORTHERN DELAWARE COALITION, AND CONVENED ITS STEERING COMMITTEE; (3) CONTINUED MOMENTUM ON PRIORITY TRAIL PROJECTS: BRANDYWINE HERITAGE TRAIL, COMMONS BOULEVARD PATHWAY, CLAYMONT TO FOX POINT STATE PARK, AND THE NEWPORT RIVER TRAIL; (4) REMAINED A STAKEHOLDER IN TRAIL USAGE AND DEVELOPMENT IN EASTERN SUSSEX COUNTY AND PARTNERED WITH BRANDYWINE CONSERVANCY ON THE BRANDYWINE CREEK GREENWAY PROJECT. WORK CONTINUED TO PROMOTE THE USE OF TRAILS AND PATHWAYS THROUGHOUT DELAWARE, WITH A FOCUS ON SAFETY.
