Providing free remote access learning hub and after-school program for at-risk children in grades K thru 5.Programs address the academic, emotional and social challenges of children in a safe and caring environment. Staff is trained in trauma awareness and remedial services are also provided in reading and math. Program includes a music enrichment component through partnership with local music school. We also support marginalized families with assistance as needed, address food insecurity, and financial assistance for early childhood learning.
In response to COVID-19 a free Remote Access Learning Hub was added to our services in September of 2020. The Hub provides space for up to 20 children in kindergarten thru grade 5 to virtually access school in a safe and caring environment. The Hub operates 6.5 hours a day 5 days a week and provides breakfast and lunch. Students receive technical and academic support from our hub staff during the school day. They also experience recess and engagement with other students in active play, fresh air, arts, crafts, yoga, storytelling, and music. Our environment allows for social distancing and observance of all CDC and COVID guidelines. Asynchronous learning days are supported with additional activity as students enjoy music and drama, yoga and dance, skills building activities, behavioral management, team building, and values based lessons.
Our free afterschool program introduce music, art, and drama through a partnership with a local music school. The need is to address ACE's, Adverse Childhood Experiences, cause by extreme and ongoing trauma in the lives of our children attending the program. Along with the addition of a math tutor, we continue to provide reading enrichment at an increased level having seen academic deficits as a result of COVID-19 and on-line school.
Our third largest spending is for outreach to our students and families in the community, more so in the aftermath of COVID-19. We provide scholarships for early childhood learning to the preschool that meets in the same building. We have provided grocery store gift cards to families to assist with food insecurity. Assistance with utility expenses for our families is provided on an as needed request basis.
