OPERADELAWARE'S MISSION IS TO ENRICH THE CULTURAL LIVES OF ADULTS, STUDENTS AND FAMILIES WITHIN THE MID-ATLANTIC REGION THROUGH MEANINGFUL ARTS EDUCATION AND THE PRODUCTION OF GRAND OPERA AND INTIMATE OPERA CONCERTS, FEATURING ESTABLISHED AND EMERGING TALENT.
OPERADELAWARE IS A PROFESSIONAL NON-PROFIT OPERA COMPANY WITH A REPUTATION FOR EXCELLENCE IN BOTH OPERA AND ARTS EDUCATION.OPERADELAWARE OPENS THE DOOR TO BOLD, VIBRANT AND CREATIVE OPERATIC PROGRAMMING THAT ENRICHES THE COMMUNITY, TRANSFORMS AUDIENCES, AND ENCOURAGES DIALOGUE.
THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC CAUSED MAJOR DISRUPTIONS TO OPERADELAWARE'S SCHEDULED PERFORMANCES AND EVENTS DURING 2019-2020 THE 75TH ANNIVERSARY SEASON. EVEN STILL, OPERADELAWARE ENRICHED THE LIVES OF 10,400 PEOPLE THROUGH PERFORMING OR PRESENTING 73 PERFORMANCES, LECTURES AND EVENTS THROUGHOUT DELAWARE AND THE MID-ATLANTIC REGION. IN ADDITION, OUR RIVERFRONT STUDIOS (AND PARKING LOT) CONTINUED TO SERVE AS THE ARTISTIC AND ADMINISTRATIVE HOME TO SEVERAL DELAWARE ARTS ORGANIZATIONS.
OPERADELAWARE'S EDUCATION AND OUTREACH PROGRAMS REACHED UNDERSERVED COMMUNITY CENTERS AND SCHOOLS THROUGH A MULTI-PRONGED APPROACH THAT PROVIDES STUDENTS WITH INSTRUCTION, TRAINING, PRESENTATIONS AND PERFORMANCE OPPORTUNITIES. THE CURRICULUM, REPERTOIRE AND REHEARSAL TIME ARE CLOSELY TAILORED TO THE SPECIFIC NEEDS OF EACH STUDENT BODY. ALTHOUGH THE COVID- 19 PANDEMIC FORCED US TO SHIFT TO VIRTUAL IMPLEMENTATION OF MANY OF THESE PROGRAMS MID YEAR OF 2019-2020 SEASON, WE WERE STILL ABLE TO PROVIDE OVER 6,100 TOTAL STUDENT INTERACTIONS THROUGH FREE PERFORMANCE AND PARTICIPATION BASED PROGRAMS INCLUDING THE WARNER ARTS ALLIANCE, A YEAR-ROUND PROGRAM THAT INTEGRATES THE ARTS INTO THE CURRICULUM AS A WAY TO REACH A VARIETY OF LEARNING STYLES. OTHER PROGRAMS INCLUDE THE NEIGHBORHOOD CHOIR AFTER-SCHOOL PROGRAM AND OUTREACH EVENTS GEARED TOWARDS YOUNG AUDIENCES WHICH INTRODUCE CHILDREN TO THE POWER AND BEAUTY OF THE UNAMPLIFIED HUMAN VOICE, WHILE TEACHING IMPORTANT LESSONS ABOUT READING, WRITING AND MUSIC.
