TO SERVE THE YOUTH AND FAMILIES IN THIS AND SURROUNDING COMMUNITIES IN A CHRISTIAN ATMOSPHERE OF GOOD SPORTSMANSHIP AND COOPERATION. TO PUT CHRISTIAN PRINCIPALS INTO PRACTICE THROUGH PROGRAMS THAT BUILD A HEALTHY SPIRIT, MIND AND BODY FOR ALL. WE'RE FOR YOUTH DEVELOPMENT, HEALTHY LIVING AND SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY.

Childcare and Preschool: Nishna Valley Family YMCA is committed to nurturing the potential of every child by providing early learning and school age programs and childcare to families in Atlantic and our surrounding communities. Our YMCA offers a range of experiences to enrich a child's social, emotional, physical, and cognitive growth. We bring caring people into children's lives to nurture them and provide a clean, safe, and healthy environment. We support and strengthen families by building positive relationships, guiding young children's positive behavior and deepening their positive values. Our YMCA offers low cost subsidized programs and childcare for over 200 children in 3 different areas: 1. Childcare for infants through 5 years at our Child Development Center, 2. Preschool programs for both 3 and 4 year olds, and 3. School age programs before/after school and summers. All of these programs are state licensed by Iowa DHS and open to all families in need of quality care no matter what they can afford. All 4 year old Preschool programs statewide are subsidized by the State of Iowa. Our annual volunteer led fundraising campaign makes scholarship money available so that every child can have access to all of our programs that build self-esteem and teach character values for life through opportunities for children to learn through socialization, exploration, choice and creative play.

Healthy Living: Nishna Valley Family YMCA is committed to promoting healthy habits and lifestyles as well as promoting well-being in spirit, mind, and body for everyone in Cass County regardless of age, faith, background, ability, or income level. We do this by bringing people together in a variety of activities that help them to enhance communication, build stronger bonds, and form stable relationships. We help foster connections through fitness, sports, fun and shared interests in a safe and nurturing environment. Over 4,000 men, women and children are members of our YMCA. More than $100,000 is raised each year through a volunteer led community annual campaign. This provides scholarships for approximately 200 families to give them the opportunity to join when they can not afford the normal membership fee. In addition, the annual campaign money raised provides free memberships to Atlantic 5th graders to help these young people make positive life choices at a time when they are most at risk. In addition to our Wellness Center, we offer over 20 land and water fitness classes per week. We give our members and guests the opportunity to come together to improve their spirit, mind, and body so they can continue to work as healthy, productive members of society while increasing their quality of life.

Youth Development: Nishna Valley Family YMCA is committed to helping young people develop to their fullest potential. We believe that all kids deserve the opportunity to discover who they are and what they can achieve. That's why we help young people cultivate the values, skills, and relationships that lead to positive behaviors, better health and educational achievement. Over 1,000 kids are serviced each year through 40 different youth programs ranging from Basketball, Football, Cheerleading, Soccer, Track, Volleyball, T-Ball, Swim Team, and swimming lessons, to Strong Kids and Strong Tikes. Scholarship money raised by volunteers during our annual campaign is made available so that no one is turned away from these programs due to inability to pay. Our YMCA conducts free Safety Around Water classes to all 2nd graders and free Water 101 Safety to all 4th and 5th graders. These free programs are also made possible by our annual volunteer led fundraising campaign. We encourage all area youth to participate in community partnered programs we host such as S.T.E.M. trainings, and Family Fun Nights (including skating and laser tag). These programs give the youth the opportunity to build on 4 pillars of character: caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility. We also partner with the City of Atlantic's Parks and Recreation Department to offer summer youth programs such as Little League baseball and softball, Tennis, and a swim team at the outdoor pool.
