Organizations Filed Purposes: THE ARC OF EAST CENTRAL IOWA EMPOWERS PEOPLE WITH INTELLECTUAL AND RELATED DISABILITIES TO ENGAGE IN LIFELONG OPPORTUNITIES TO LIVE, LEARN, WORK AND PLAY WITH DIGNITY, FREEDOM AND FULL INCLUSION IN THEIR COMMUNITIES.

THE ARC PROVIDES SERVICE SUPPORT AND ADVOCACY TO PEOPLE WITH INTELLECTUAL DISABILITIES.

IN-HOME AND COMMUNITY PROVIDES SERVICES TO 491 INDIVIDUALS IN THEIR HOMES OR WITHIN THE COMMUNITY. RESPITE CARE GIVES PARENTS AND GUARDIANS TIME AWAY FROM THE EVERYDAY RESPONSIBILITIES OF CARING FOR A CHILD WITH INTELLECTUAL OR DEVELOPMENTAL DISABILITY. SUPPORTED COMMUNITY LIVING ASSISTS IN DESIGNING A SKILL-BASED TRAINING PROGRAM INTENDED TO ASSIST THE PARTICIPANT IN BECOMING MORE INDEPENDENT IN THEIR HOME AND COMMUNITY. HABILITATION ASSISTS PARTICIPANTS IN ACQUIRING, RETAINING, AND IMPROVING THE SELF-HELP, SOCIALIZATION, AND ADAPTIVE SKILLS NECESSARY TO RESIDE SUCCESSFULLY IN HOME AND COMMUNITY-BASED SETTINGS. IMMT PROVIDES CARE FOR INDIVIDUALS WITH SIGNIFICANT MEDICAL NEED THAT INCLUDES COMPREHENSIVE DEVELOPMENTAL CARE, MEDICAL ASSESSMENT, AND INTERVENTION AS NEEDED.

DAY HABILITATION/COMMUNITY INTEGRATION SERVES 96 INDIVIDUALS. DAY HABILITATION PROGRAM SERVES ADULTS WITH INTELLECTUAL DISABILITIES (I/DD). IT IS BASED IN THE COMMUNITY AND PRIMARILY USES THE CITY BUS FOR TRANSPORTATION. EACH PARTICIPANT IS HELPED TO DEVELOP OR MAINTAIN LIFE SKILLS, AND TO PARTICIPATE MEANINGFULLY IN THE COMMUNITY. EMPHASIS IS ON INDIVIDUALS CHOOSING THEIR ACTIVITIES AND ASSISTING IN THE PLANNING PROCESS.

PROJECT SEARCH/SUPPORTED EMPLOYMENT SERVES ABOUT 40 INDIVIDUALS. PROJECT SEARCH USES A COMBINATION OF CLASSROOM INSTRUCTION COUPLED WITH WORKPLACE INTERNSHIPS TO PREPARE INDIVIDUALS WITH DEVELOPMENTAL AND INTELLECTUAL DISABILITIES FOR COMPETITIVE EMPLOYMENT. IT IS PROVIDED BY THE ARC OF EAST CENTRAL IOWA IN PARTNERSHIP WITH UNITY POINT HEALTH - ST. LUKE'S HOSPITAL AND IOWA VOCATIONAL REHABILITATION SERVICES. SUPPORTED EMPLOYMENT SERVICES ASSIST PERSONS TO OBTAIN SUCCESSFUL COMMUNITY EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES THAT ARE RESPONSIVE TO THEIR CHOICES AND PREFERENCES. THROUGH A STRENGTHS-BASED APPROACH, THE PROGRAM PROVIDES PERSON-DIRECTED SERVICES AND SUPPORTS TO INDIVIDUALS TO CHOOSE AND MAINTAIN EMPLOYMENT IN INTEGRATED COMMUNITY EMPLOYMENT SETTINGS.
