THE CATHERINE MCAULEY CENTER (CMC) OFFERS HOPE AND OPPORTUNITY THROUGH EDUCATIONAL AND SUPPORTIVE SERVICES THAT PROMOTE STABILITY, SKILL-BUILDING, AND CONNECTION.

THE REFUGEE & IMMIGRANT SERVICES (RIS) PROVIDES REFUGEE RESETTLEMENT AND CASE MANAGEMENT AND ASSISTANCE IN NAVIGATING COMMUNITY RESOURCES, SUCH AS HEALTHCARE, PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION, LEGAL SERVICES, THE SCHOOL SYSTEM, AND SOCIAL SERVICES. THE RIS EMPLOYMENT PROGRAM INCLUDES EMPLOYMENT-READINESS CLASSES, INDIVIDUAL JOB-SEEKING ASSISTANCE, TRANSPORTATION, PARTNERSHIPS WITH LOCAL EMPLOYERS TO CONNECT REFUGEE AND IMMIGRANT JOB SEEKERS WITH PROSPECTIVE EMPLOYERS AS WELL AS AN IN-HOME CHILD CARE BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT AND TRAINING PROGRAM. IN FISCAL YEAR 2020, A TOTAL OF 528 REFUGEES AND IMMIGRANTS WERE SERVED THROUGH THESE PROGRAMS.
THE ADULT BASIC EDUCATION PROGRAM PROVIDES FREE ONE-ON-ONE TUTORING TO ADULT LEARNERS IN ENGLISH AS A SECOND LANGUAGE, BASIC MATH, COMPUTERS, AND U.S. CITIZENSHIP EXAM PREPARATION. OVER 350 VOLUNTEERS, TRAINED & GUIDED BY A TEAM OF PROFESSIONAL STAFF, PROVIDE THE MAJORITY OF DIRECT INSTRUCTION. THE LAST HALF OF FY20 BROUGHT ABOUT A SHIFT TO ONLINE LEARNING, WITH ALL CLASSES BEING TAUGHT VIA ONLINE TUTORING AND GROUP WORK. IN FISCAL YEAR 2020, 485 LEARNERS REPRESENTING 56 DIFFERENT COUNTRIES DEDICATED MORE THAN 11,975 HOURS OF STUDY AT CMC. THE PROGRAM PRIMARILY SERVES LOW- TO MODERATE-INCOME FAMILIES WHO ARE WORKING TO IMPROVE THEIR DAILY LIFE COMMUNICATION SKILLS, IMPROVE EMPLOYMENT, SUPPORT THEIR FAMILIES, AND ACHIEVE FINANCIAL STABILITY.
WOMEN'S SERVICES PROVIDES FEMALE-RESPONSIVE, TRAUMA-INFORMED CASE MANAGEMENT, SKILL-BUILDING EDUCATION, AND A WIDE RANGE OF INDIVIDUAL AND GROUP SUPPORTIVE SERVICES TO WOMEN THAT ARE SERVED THROUGH CMC-BASED RESIDENTIAL PROGRAMS AND GRADUATES OF SERVICES LIVING IN THE COMMUNITY. THE TRANSITIONAL HOUSING PROGRAM SERVES UNACCOMPANIED WOMEN OVER THE AGE OF 18 WHO ARE EXPERIENCING HOMELESSNESS, ARE AT RISK OF HOMELESSNESS, OR ARE EXPERIENCING OTHER SIGNIFICANT CRISES. THE PROGRAM PROVIDES SAFE HOUSING FOR 17 WOMEN AS THEY WORK TO OVERCOME BARRIERS TO LONG-TERM STABILITY AND TO WORK ON THEIR INDIVIDUAL GOALS. THE SUPPORTIVE HOUSING PROGRAM SERVES GRADUATES OF CMC'S TRANSITIONAL HOUSING PROGRAM THAT ARE NEEDING LONGER-TERM SUPPORTIVE SERVICES TO SUSTAIN PERMANENT HOUSING. THE PROGRAM PROVIDES SAFE, AFFORDABLE HOUSING FOR 6 WOMEN. AFTERCARE SERVICES ARE AVAILABLE FOR WOMEN THAT HAVE GRADUATED FROM CMC RESIDENTIAL PROGRAMMING AND ARE LIVING IN THE COMMUNITY WITH CASE MANAGEMENT AND SKILL-BUILDING EDUCATION. IN FISCAL YEAR 2020 THE TRANSITIONAL HOUSING PROGRAM SERVED 34 WOMEN, THE SUPPORTIVE HOUSING PROGRAM SERVED 7 WOMEN, AND AFTERCARE SERVED 7 WOMEN.
