Organizations Filed Purposes: THE FOUNDATION MOBILIZES RESOURCES AND RELATIONSHIPS THAT EMPOWER OUR LIBRARY.

THE CEDAR RAPIDS PUBLIC LIBRARY FOUNDATION SUPPORTED OUR LIBRARY'S EFFORTS TO PROMOTE ACCESS, LITERACY, AND INCLUSION FOR ALL AGES. DOLLY PARTON'S IMAGINATION LIBRARY ENTERED ITS THIRD YEAR OF SENDING FREE, AGE-APPROPRIATE BOOKS TO CHILDREN UNDER 5 IN CEDAR RAPIDS. IN JANUARY, WE CELEBRATED MAILING THE 100,000TH IMAGINATION LIBRARY BOOK, AND AT THE END OF JUNE, 5,348 CHILDREN WERE ACTIVELY ENROLLED, AND 1,894 CHILDREN HAD GRADUATED UPON TURNING FIVE. OUR LIBRARY'S PARTNERSHIP WITH CARGILL ALSO CONTINUES THROUGH A PRESCHOOL OUTREACH PROGRAM THAT PROVIDES BOOKS, STORY TIMES, AND PROGRAMS FOR THREE SCHOOLS SERVING AT-RISK CHILDREN. WHILE THE COVID SHUTDOWN HAMPERED END OF YEAR PROGRAMS, OUR LIBRARY PROVIDED 162 STUDENTS RECEIVED 1,134 FREE BOOKS THIS SCHOOL YEAR

THE CEDAR RAPIDS PUBLIC LIBRARY FOUNDATION CONTINUES TO SUPPORT OUR LIBRARY'S EFFORTS TO PROVIDE ACCESS TO ROBUST MATERIALS THROUGH THEIR PRINT AND ONLINE COLLECTIONS. THIS YEAR, THE LIBRARY FOUNDATION BEGAN FUNDING AN ONLINE RESOURCE FOR DIGITAL MATERIALS CALLED HOOPLA. THIS PLATFORM INCREASED OUR DIGITAL COLLECTION OFFERINGS TO INCLUDE COMIC BOOKS, POPULAR MOVIES, SOUNDTRACKS, AND MORE. MORE IMPORTANTLY, HOOPLA ALLOWS IMMEDIATE STREAMING OF (OR INSTANT ACCESS TO) THE DESIRED CONTENT, RATHER THAN REQUIRING A HOLDS LIST FOR POPULAR TITLES. IN ITS FIRST YEAR, HOOPLA HAD 938 UNIQUE USERS WHO CHECKED OUT 13,440 TOTAL ITEMS.

OUR LIBRARY'S SUMMER DARE TOOK AN UNTRADITIONAL PATH THIS YEAR, AND IN DOING SO, EXCEEDED ALL EXPECTATIONS. LIBRARY FOUNDATION FUNDING ENABLED STAFF TO PIVOT AND PROVIDE APPROXIMATELY 136 VIRTUAL PROGRAMS WITH MORE THAN 42,000 VIEWS AND SUMMER CAMP KITS FOR 490 CHILDREN AGES 5 TO 18. LIBRARY STAFF CREATED A DISCORD SERVER WHERE APPROXIMATELY 100 TEENS WERE ABLE TO INTERACT IN A SAFE, CHAT ROOM ENVIRONMENT WITH PROGRAMMING STAFF AND EACH OTHER. FY20 ALSO SAW THE CONTINUATION OF OUR SENIOR BOOKS CLUBS, WHICH SERVED 30 INDIVIDUALS AT TWO RETIREMENT COMMUNITIES, BRINGING BOOKS AND FACILITATING DISCUSSION JULY 2019 THROUGH FEBRUARY 2020.
