Organizations Filed Purposes:
Serious and enjoyable dance classes to all ages without the interruption and expense of a recital or dance competitions. Advanced students perform for the general public both as an offering to the community and as part of their training for a career as professional ballet dancers.
Ballet and contemporary dance classes with teachers who have danced professionally. Older students perform classical masterworks and original choreography for underserved populations and the general public. Students seeking dance careers or recreation benefit from ballet taught the traditional way
Level appropriate dance, primarily classical ballet, and exercise classes are taught for all ages from children as young as age 3 to adults and senior citizens. Most levels include multiple classes each week so that young dancers making full use of the curriculum are encouraged to see dance as a life-long pursuit and have the dance technique and ballet vocabulary to consider ballet dancing as a career.
The Pointe Dance Ensemble is the performing arm of the training program. Classical Masterworks and original choreography are learned and rehearsed for performances for the general public. In 2020, although no public performances were held due to safety concerns, several dancers of the Ensemble did perform in the January YAGP competition in Chicago where they also took additional classes both within the YAGP workshops and in open classes in the Chicago area. Rehearsals continued throughout the year in anticipation of performing the planned 2020 repertory in 2021 and to provide an important social outlet during trying times.
Use of the professionally appointed dance studio space is given free to dance groups in support of the wider dance community in our metro area. In 2020, Iowa Dance Theatre used the space prior to the pandemic shut down and Aloha Wind supplemented safety protocols in the fall in order to continue to meet on Sundays as they have for several years.
