Organizations Filed Purposes: The Dubuque Community Y, utilizing Christian principles, creates opportunities for growth, leadership, and empowerment for women, men, and youth by building healthy mind, spirit, and body with emphasis on respect, responsibility, caring, honesty, and the elimination of racism and prejudices.

Focus on youth development, healthy living, social responsibility, empowering women and eliminating racism.

YOUTH DEVELOPMENT - THE DCY IS COMMITTED TO NURTURING THE POTENTIAL OF EVERY CHILD. IN 2018 WE OPERATED 12 LICENSED CHILDCARE SITES, SERVING 650 CHILDREN IN OUR LICENSED CHILDCARE PROGRAMS WHICH INCLUDE 2 LICENSED PRESCHOOL SITES, 9 BEFORE AND AFTER SCHOOL SITES, AND OUR LICENSED SUMMER "COOL SCHOOL" PROGRAM. IN ADDITION TO OUR BEFORE AND AFTER SCHOOL CARE, OUR COLLABORATION WITH THE DUBUQUE COMMUNITY SCHOOL DISTRICT INCLUDED OUR PARTICIPATION IN THE STATE OF IOWA VOLUNTARY 4 PROGRAM, OFFERING FREE STRUCTURED EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMMING FROM LICENSED EDUCATORS TO AREA FOUR YEAR OLDS. WE REACHED ANOTHER 3000 AREA CHILDREN THROUGH PROGRAMS INCLUDING OUR SUMMER DAY AND HORSE CAMPS, SWIM LESSONS, YOUTH SPORTS, GYMNASTICS, COMPETITIVE SWIM TEAM, BASKETBALL AND VOLLEYBALL LEAGUES, AS WELL AS THE HEALTHY LIVING AND WELLNESS PROGRAMS AVAILABLE TO ALL Y MEMBERS. AS WITH ALL OF OUR PROGRAMMING, EVERY YOUTH PROGRAM IS MADE AVAILABLE TO ALL COMMUNITY MEMBERS THROUGH OUR SCHOLARSHIP AND FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE PROGRAMS.

HEALTHY LIVING - THE DCY IS COMMITTED TO IMPROVING OUR COMMUNITY'S HEALTH AND WELL BEING. WE BRING FAMILIES CLOSER TOGETHER, ENCOURAGE GOOD HEALTH, AND FOSTER CONNECTIONS AND RELATIONSHIPS THROUGH FITNESS, SPORTS, FUN, AND SHARED INTERESTS. AS A RESULT, OVER 5,000 PEOPLE IN OUR AREA COMMUNITIES ARE RECEIVING THE SUPPORT, GUIDANCE, AND RESOURCES THEY NEED TO ACHIEVE GREATER HEALTH IN SPIRIT, MIND, AND BODY. THIS IS PARTICULARLY IMPORTANT AS OUR NATION STRUGGLES WITH CHRONIC DISEASE AND OBESITY, FAMILIES WRESTLE WITH WORK/LIFE BALANCE, AND INDIVIDUALS SEARCH FOR PERSONAL FULFILLMENT. AS WITH EVERYTHING WE OFFER, OUR PROGRAMS ARE ACCESSIBLE, AFFORDABLE, AND OPEN TO ALL FAITHS, BACKGROUNDS, ABILITIES, AND INCOME LEVELS. FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE, FUNDED PRIMARILY THROUGH OUR ANNUAL CAMPAIGN, IS OFFERED TO ALL WHO MAY NOT BE ABLE TO PARTICIPATE.

SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY - THE DCY EXISTS TO GIVE BACK AND SUPPORT OUR NEIGHBORS. WE HAVE BEEN RESPONDING TO OUR COMMUNITY'S MOST CRITICAL SOCIAL NEEDS FOR OVER 150 YEARS. OUR REACH AND RISE GROUP AND ONE-ON-ONE MENTORING PROGRAMS AND OUR RESTORATIVE PRACTICES PROGRAM HAVE ALLOWED US TO DELIVER TRAINING, RESOURCES, AND SUPPORT THAT EMPOWER OUR FELLOW COMMUNITY MEMBERS TO EFFECT CHANGE IN AREA YOUTH, HELPING THEM TO OVERCOME OBSTACLES. OUR DOMESTIC VIOLENCE PROGRAM, INCLUDING OUR FULLY STAFFED DOMESTIC VIOLENCE SHELTER PROVIDED 4,000 NIGHTS OF SAFETY IN 2018, AS WELL AS THE RESOURCES TO EMPOWER VICTIMS OF DOMESTIC VIOLENCE TO LEAVE THREATENING CIRCUMSTANCES AND MOVE FORWARD WITH SECURITY AND SUPPORT. ADDITIONALLY, IN 2018 THE DCY PROVIDED FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE TO INDIVIDUALS WHO OTHERWISE COULD NOT AFFORD TO PARTICIPATE.
