Generate private support for Mercy Hospital Iowa City and manage, invest and disburse funds.
Mercy Hospital Foundation ("The Foundation") provided $756,324 in funding in fiscal year 2020 to Mercy Hospital Iowa City for several large facility improvement projects, medical equipment, patient comfort items, educational materials/programs, nursing and health career scholarships, assistance with Advance Directives and more to improve patient care, enhance the hospital's healing environment and provide support for specific areas such as Lab, Pharmacy, Cardiac Rehab, 3W Unit Negative Airflow remodel to safely treat COVID patients, Cancer Care Services, Nursing Units, Surgery and much more.(Schedule O)Donor support was directed primarily to areas of greatest need such as the Level 2 remodel to comfortably social distance patients and families in surgery outpatient as well as lab waiting areas. This is a space within the hospital that allowed patients to get the care they need with COVID distancing guidelines in place for patients and visitors alike. The Foundation also paid: $387,000 towards the new Infusion Center, $8,800 for the Hepacart dust containment system in the Surgical Care Unite, $10,817 for stretchers in the Wound and Vein Center, and $34,616 for landscape and design of the Healing Therapy Garden at Mercy Iowa City Rehab Hospital.Mercy's scholarship program provided 25 Health Career Scholarships of $1,000 each to students graduating from high school in Mercy's 10-county service area who plan to major in a health career in college, and 32 Nursing Scholarships to 24 employees who are continuing their advanced nursing education. The Foundation continues to provide all of the educational materials used with the roughly 450 patients in the Diabetes Education program. Another program provides assistance to women who cannot afford diagnostic testing for breast cancer including mammograms, ultrasound and more, using gifts donated specifically for this purpose. The medical and other equipment supported by the Foundation serves a general population of this hospital.
