Organizations Filed Purposes:
YOUTH HOMES OF MID-AMERICA RESTORES HOPE BY PROVIDING TROUBLED YOUTH AND FAMILIES A PATH TO INDEPENDENCE. THE ORGANIZATION IS DEDICATED TO PROVIDING SOCIAL SERVICES FOR YOUTH AND THEIR FAMILIES WITH EDUCATION, CARE, AND TREATMENT, IN A VARIETY OF SETTINGS. (CONT. ON SCHEDULE O)TREATMENT IS BASED ON BEST PRACTICE PRINCIPLES WHICH INCLUDE AN INDIVIDUALIZED TREATMENT PROGRAM FOR EACH CLIENT. IT INVOLVES TREATMENT OF THE TOTAL PERSON IN TERMS OF THEIR EMOTIONAL, EDUCATIONAL, PHYSICAL, AND SPIRITUAL NEEDS. RESPONSIBILITY FOR PRE-ADMISSION STUDY, AS WELL AS PLACEMENT AND POST-DISCHARGE SUPERVISION OF THE CLIENT WHO HAS RETURNED TO THE COMMUNITY MAY BE INCLUDED.
THE ORGANIZATION IS DEDICATED TO PROVIDING SOCIAL SERVICES FOR YOUTH AND THEIR FAMILIES
THE ROSS CAMPUS RESIDENTIAL TREATMENT CENTER IS A 50 BED RESIDENTIAL FACILITY FOR IOWA TEENAGE BOYS. LOCATED ON 35 ACRES IN JOHNSTON, THE ROSS CAMPUS PROVIDES A SAFE AND SECURE LIVING ENVIRONMENT FOR AT RISK YOUTH UNDER THE STATE OF IOWA'S MEDICAID SERVICE PLAN. ROSS CAMPUS HAS A SCHOOL ON CAMPUS WHICH IS STAFFED BY SPECIAL EDUCATION TEACHERS IN COOPERATION WITH THE JOHNSTON PUBLIC SCHOOLS, RESIDENTIAL LIVING COTTAGES, RECREATIONAL SPACE, AND AN ADMINISTRATION BUILDING. THE PRE-INDEPENDENT LIVING PROGRAM BEGAN IN 2004 AND IS DESIGNED FOR 15 TEENAGE BOYS WHO ARE LIVING AT THE ROSS CAMPUS TREATMENT CENTER. ALL OF THESE BOYS WILL BE A PART OF THE IOWA JUVENILE JUSTICE SYSTEM UNTIL THEY REACH THEIR EIGHTEENTH BIRTHDAY. (CONTINUED ON SCHEDULE O)ALL OF THESE YOUTH ARE IN NEED OF THE MORE STRUCTURED LIVING AND LEARNING ATMOSPHERE THAT IS PROVIDED ON ROSS CAMPUS. THEY STILL ARE REQUIRED TO ATTEND THEIR INDIVIDUAL COUNSELING AND TREATMENT SESSIONS, ATTEND SCHOOL, AND EITHER HAVE A PART-TIME JOB OR BE ACTIVELY LOOKING FOR A PART-TIME JOB. THE PROGRAM SERVED 158 CHILDREN IN 2019.
BHIS SERVICES CONSIST OF SKILL BUILDING INTERVENTIONS DESIGNED TO IMPROVE THE CLIENTS' FUNCTIONING BY USING COGNITIVE, BEHAVIORAL OR SOCIAL INTERVENTIONS. THE INTERVENTIONS MAY INCLUDE COMMUNICATION SKILLS, CONFLICT RESOLUTION SKILLS, PROBLEM SOLVING SKILLS, SOCIAL SKILLS, AND INTERPERSONAL RELATIONSHIP SKILLS. THE FOCUS OF THE SERVICE IS TO REDUCE THE SYMPTOMS/BEHAVIORS THAT NEGATIVELY AFFECT A CLIENT'S ABILITY TO FUNCTION AT THEIR BEST POSSIBLE LEVEL WITH MINIMAL INTERFERENCE. 227 CLIENTS/FAMILIES RECEIVED BHIS SERVICES (BEHAVIORAL, HEALTH, AND INTERVENTION SERVICES) IN 2019.
THE INDEPENDENT LIVING PROGRAM WORKS WITH BOTH BOYS AND GIRLS AGES 16 TO 18 YEARS OLD. THIS PROGRAM IS DESIGNED TO PROVIDE SUPERVISION AND COUNSELING TO YOUTH WHO ARE ABOUT THE REACH THEIR 18TH BIRTHDAY AND "AGE OUT" OF THE JUVENILE SYSTEMS INTO THE ADULT SYSTEM. THESE CLIENTS HAVE LITTLE OR NO FAMILY SUPPORT AND THEREFORE ARE IN NEED OF SIGNIFICANT ADULT MENTORING. SOME OF THE CLIENTS ARE ALSO YOUNG TEENAGE MOMS WHO ARE ATTEMPTING TO CARE FOR ONE OR MORE BABIES. CLIENTS RECEIVE TRAINING IN SUCH SKILLS AS DAILY LIVING SKILLS, MONEY MANAGEMENT, COORDINATION OF BASIC EDUCATIONAL NEEDS, VOCATIONAL AND JOB PREPARATION, AND TEENAGE PARENTING SKILLS. THIS PROGRAM SERVICED 78 CHILDREN IN 2019.
