Organizations Filed Purposes: Identify, record and preserve artifacts representing county history. Promote an interest in and education of residents and visitors concerning county history through collection and display of artifacts and historical information including genealogical material.

Organization acquires and preserves Jackson County Iowa historical artifacts and information and preserves and displays them for the public to see at two museum locations in Maquoketa, Iowa. Cost of staffing and maintaining facilities is our single largest expense. Operate two gift shops at these sites.

Educational presentations and program services at museum facilities.

Preserve and promote historic Hurst Limestone Kilns near Maquoketa where public can view the only remaining group of Kilns in the county. Self guided tour facility with education placards detailing the once booming enterprise of a century ago. JCHS also supports other historical preservation efforts in surrounding communities such as Bellevue, Andrew, Canton that highlight or preserve important structures or programs for those specific areas.
