To operate the restored historical Emporia Granada Theatre as a destination for educational, cultural, and social events that strengthen the community.
The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1985; however, its historic status was no guarantee of immunity from time and progress. When demolition threatened the building in 1994, a group of citizens rallied to save the Granada. After many years of hard work, it has been restored to its lusterous beauty. And now, the restored historical Emporia Granada Theatre is a destination for educational, cultural, and social events that strengthen the community. The first floor was designed in such a way to accommodate any kind of event, whether it be a conference, seminar, meeting place, classroom, wedding reception, dance, theatre, concert or party. This beautiful multi-use building has been well received by the citizens of Emporia and Lyon County and will serve their educational, cultural and social needs for many years to come.
The theatre is fully operational and schedules many theatre events. Events include meetings, conferences, dances, movies, weddings, plays, musical performances and parties. A large portion of expenses are related to the use of the building and the management of the events.
The building is at the core of the program services since it houses all of the educational, cultural, and social events, therefore, the building occupancy was part of the largest program service accomplishments based on expenses. The building has store fronts that are rented out to other businesses. The Granada Coffee Company which sells gourmet coffee is one of the businesses. A shoe store called Sole Mates rents the other store front. The rent income from the two stores is indicated above.
Advertising, office expenses, and travel.
