PROVIDE SPORTS MEDICINE, HEALTH CARE AND ATHLETIC TRAINING SERVICES TO UNDERSERVED YOUTHS. WE PROVIDE FREE OR LOW-COST INJURY PREVENTION AND TREATMENT, SPORTS PHYSICALS, CONCUSSION MANAGEMENT, AND ACCESS TO MEDICAL PROVIDERS FOR THOUSANDS OF TEENS IN ECONOMICALLY CHALLENGED AREAS
STUDENT ATHLETE FOUNDATION OF KANSAS PROVIDED FULL-TIME SPORTS MEDICINE SERVICES FOR 3,574 STUDENTS AT SPORTS PRACTICES AND GAMES. SAFEKC ALSO PROVIDED CONCUSSION SCREEENINGS AND MANAGEMENT, AND NUTRUTUIONAL AND HEALTH EDUCATION TO TEENAGERS PLAYING ORGANIZED AND RECREATIONAL SPORTS. SAFEKC PROVIDED THESE SERVICES AT NO COST TO THE STUDENT ATHLETES AND THEIR FAMILIES, SAVING THEM THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS IN HEALTH CARE CO-PAYS, OFFICE VISITS, DIAGNOSTIC AND REHABILITATION SERVICES.
SAFEKC ATHLETIC TRAINERS PERFORMED MORE THAN 1,800 NEUROCOGNITIVE CONCUSSION SCREENINGS FOR STUDENT ATHLETES (AT NO COST TO THE STUDENTS), AND PROVIDED EDUCATIONAL SEMINARS AND TRAINING FOR STUDENT ATHLETES, PARENTS, COACHES AND SCHOOL ADMINISTRATORS. THIS COMMUNITY EDUCATION INITIATIVE WAS THE LARGEST-SCALE EDUCATIONAL PROGRAM OF ITS KIND IN WYANDOTTE AND LEAVENWORTH COUNTIES CONDUCTED BY A SINGLE ORGANIZATION TO IMPROVE AWARENESS OF CONCUSSION SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS, AND ULTIMATELY, MANAGE THE TREATMENT AND THERAPY PROTOCOLS FOR CONCUSSED TEENAGE ATHLETES.
SAFEKC PROVIDED LOW-COST, PRE-PARTICIPATION SPORTS PHYSICALS SEVERAL TIMES THROUGHOUT THE YEAR FOR STUDENT ATHLETES AGES 12-18. THESE COMPREHENSIVE PHYSICALS INCLUDED EXPANDED ORTHOPEDIC EVALUATIONS, EKGS AND NUTRITIONAL AND PHYSICAL EDUCATIONAL INFORMATION SPECIFICALLY DESIGNED FOR STUDENT ATHLETES. SAFEKC ALSO PROVIDED FREE SPORTS INJURY CLINICS ON WEEKENDS DURING FALL SPORTS SEASON. STUDENT ATHLETES RECEIVED ORTHOPEDIC EXAMINATIONS AND FREE X-RAYS, SAVING THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS IN MEDICAL EXPENSES, STREAMLINING INTERVENTIONAL AND THERAPEUTIC CARE FOR ATHLETES AND REDUCING COMMUNITY HEALTH CARE COSTS.
