Helping the people of Northern Uganda realize their full potential through educational opportunities
This year we initiated construction of our second school, Hayden. The area chosen for Hayden is remote with a significant number of children who are unable to attend school. The closest school, a private institution, is unaffordable and the other nearest school is several hours away. Hayden will open in 2020 and we are expecting almost 350 students to enroll. Our goal is for education to be the means through which the people of the area can/will further the development of their community.
We continued funding Nahla Primary School operations. Breaking it down, we were able to provide $20,156 for teacher salaries/training, $10,522 for student supplies/food, and $152 for administration & general expense. And, as a direct result of this continued investment, our Nahla Primary Students, based on annual testing scores, outperformed the other 6 schools in Agweng Sub-County by a significant margin. More specifically, one hundred percent of our participating students qualified in the two highest testing divisions (D1 & D2), while the school closest to Nahla in the rankings had only forty-eight percent of their testing students reach these same levels.
Since its opening, the leaders of our Nahla school have wanted to add a nursery for preschoolers so that the younger children from the local area could get off to a solid educational start. In fact, their desire was so great that they began holding preschool classes for 40 students in the school's kitchen. And this year, due to our gracious donors, the Nahla leaders' dreams were realized as we were able to fund an additional building with three classrooms for both the preexisting preschoolers and any new students who would like to attend the school.
