Organizations Filed Purposes:
The object of the organization shall be to foster interest among its members in the social and civic activities pertaining to events sponsored by or conducted by the American Royal Association, Inc. and to make available their efficient volunteer services for American Royal activities.
To support the American Royal Association, Inc. by fostering community interest, providing volunteer services, raising funds, and enabling growth and development.
The Belles of the American Royal (BOTAR) is a women's leadership organization that supports the unique mission of the American Royal and its role in promoting the agribusiness economy in Kansas City and the region. BOTAR encourages civic involvement and develops leadership skills through inter-generational mentoring and volunteerism. As a part of their support of the American Royal, BOTAR members provide funds for the American Royal scholarship and educational programs, conduct school tours during the annual livestock show, staff the American Royal Museum, and provide hospitality to American Royal student ambassadors. A new class of "Belles" is celebrated annually as they begin their post-college careers and join the current 1,200 active members in serving their local community through BOTAR. The efforts of the members during 2019 resulted in direct grant support to the American Royal Association of $34,776 and a $10,000 grant sent to Agriculture Future of America.
The signature annual event, apart from the American Royal, is the BOTAR Ball where the "Belles" are formally presented. This event is a celebration of these young women and the revenue generated from the Ball tickets provides a significant part of the funding for the American Royal. Because the BOTAR Ball is part of the BOTAR program as well as a funding source for the organization's mission, we have chosen to report the direct Ball income and expenses on Schedule G and to report the general BOTAR program expenses, not specifically related to that evening, here. The Ball is the culminating event for the annual class of Belles of a year of activities, service, learning, and growing into their community. The skills these young women learn not only assist in future years of service to BOTAR and the American Royal but in other areas of service in the community.
