Organizations Filed Purposes:
PRIMARY EXEMPT PURPOSE IS TO PROMOTE SEPARATION OF RELIGION AND GOVERNMENT. MAINSTREAM COALITION ALSO BELIEVES AN INFORMED AND ACTIVE ELECTORATE IS VITAL FOR A GOVERNMENT DEDICATED TO BEING RESPONSIVE TO ALL ITS CITIZENRY.
IN 2018 MAINSTREAM COALITION ENGAGED IN NUMEROUS ADVOCACY ACTIVITIES. THE COALITION SENDS A WEEKLY EMAIL, SENDS OUT ACTION ALERTS TO ITS NETWORK, ENGAGES ON SOCIAL MEDIA, AND HOSTS REGULAR EVENTS TO HELP EDUCATE AND ENGAGE THE PUBLIC ON CRITICAL ISSUES FACING THE STATE OF KANSAS. MAINSTREAM ENGAGED IN TESTIMONY BEFORE THE KANSAS LEGISLATURE ON TWELVE OCCASIONS, ON TOPICS AS DIVERSE AS REPEAL OF CAMPUS CARRY, OPPOSITION TO A TWO TIER UNEQUAL VOTING SYSTEM, SUPPORT OF KANCARE EXPANSION, TAX REFORM, LOWERING FOOD SALES TAX, AND SUITABLE FUNDING OF PUBLIC SCHOOLS THROUGH THE STATE.
MAINSTREAM COALITION HELD SEVERAL LEGISLATIVE FORUMS WHERE SITTING LEGISLATORS WERE INVITED TO UPDATE THE PUBLIC ON KEY ISSUES BEING ADDRESSED BY THE KANSAS LEGISLATURE. OTHER FORUMS CONSISTED OF CIVIC LEADERS SPEAKING TO PUBLIC EDUCATION FUNDING ISSUES, BUDGETS AND FISCAL RESPONSIBILITY, JUDICIAL SELECTIONS, AND CITIZENRY RESPONSIBILITIES TO BE AN INFORMED AND ACTIVE VOTER.MAINSTREAM MAKES WIDE USE OF SOCIAL MEDIA WITH ITS WEB, TWITTER, FACEBOOK, AND EMAIL ACCOUNTS.
MAINSTREAMS VOTER ENGAGEMENT EFFORT, BEGUN IN 2017, IS A BE A VOTER PROJECT. ITS GOALS ARE TO INCREASE VOTER TURNOUT, ESPECIALLY IN PRIMARY ELECTIONS WHERE TURNOUT IS LOW; ASSIST VOTERS IN UNDERSTANDING THE VOTING PROCESS, HELP THEM FIND INFORMATION THAT WILL ENHANCE THEIR VOTING DECISIONS, AND EDUCATE PEOPLE ABOUT THE NEED TO BE INFORMED VOTERS.WITH OUR 100+ VOLUNTEER AMBASSADORS AND INTERN CANVASSERS WORKING THROUGH THE SPRING, SUMMER, AND FALL, WE WERE ABLE TO RECORD AN 82% VOTER TURNOUT OF THE VOTERS WE CONTACTED, VS. AN OVERALL VOTER TURNOUT IN KANSAS AT 56%. AMONG PEOPLE WHO SAID THEY WERE GENERALLY NON-VOTERS, 41% OF THEM VOTED IN THE FALL 2018 ELECTION. WE PLAN TO INCREASE OUR PROGRAM AND VISABILITY NEXT YEAR AS WELL.
