The mission of the Western Kansas Child Advocacy Center (WKCAC) is to heal the trauma of abuse to children and adults through prevention, support and services. Our vision is to ensure that every child and adult has access to trauma-focused services in their community.
The organization's purpose is to increase community awareness and responsiveness to the needs of abused, neglected and deliquent children in the 16th Judicial District and to advocate on their behalf to secure a safe, nurturing, permanent environment for these children.
The organization provides child advocacy services in 33 rural western counties in Kansas. Since its inception in 2004, the organization has interviewed approximately 4,600 children, in 2019 alone, there were 613 interviews. The organization operates 6 centers and six mobile units. Of those interviewed in 2019, 83% of the cases were for sexual abuse, 13% for physcial abuse, 3% for neglect, 3% for multiple abuses and 1% were interveiwed for other types of abuse.
